$20 on joe vs dan Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 Many thought the China region sets were pretty fantastic...and hopeful that the sets would eventually be released worldwide (this could still happen); and in the mean-time the sets have been popping up in the US (some Independent Brick stores and ofcourse Ebay) ranging from $150-$200 (relatively modest gains given shipping). That said...many believed that these sets would get a big run-up leading into Chinese New Years (this past Tue). That did not happen. I am wondering why...great sets...global popularity...and global holiday lead-up (that often includes gifts/red envelopes) [hoping this thread captures for prosterity some of the mis-judged expectations...feel free to post other examples that come to mind] Quote

Yesterday I found a 5 $ bill I was hoping it would be worth 10 $ by time I got home or maybe even a 100 $...That didnt happen. You have a lot to learn about lego investing, supply demand, reality, reselling, value etc 2 1 Quote

Guess I'll try Kaley Cuoco.. my silver medal. Also ² ... Brick Bank selling window closed quickly and it didn't become the next Town Hall Edited February 7, 2019 by brickvoyeur 1 3 Quote

lodibricks Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 While I don't have high expectations, I tend to think/hope seasonal sets will see a boost every Valentine's, Halloween & Xmas, so I can't fault the logic. Quote

Mark Twain Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 Not widely known outside of China beyond AFOL, and this audience isn’t one to overpay for novelty of a holiday, like a grandparent dropping x5 rrp on a Minecraft set for Timmy just because of Xmas.Sent from my iPhone using Brickpicker Forum mobile app 2 Quote

iahawks550 Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 I have no idea, but at least a dozen more than what people want. I just looked, and it's actually still available at Amazon. I really had no idea that was still the case. It's a cool set, but my last purchase of one was almost two years ago, and I thought that was the end of it's life. Quote
vincevaughn Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 Yep...That was probably my worst investment ever. How many did they make?Too many, but good news they will always have demand. That bun just needs more time in the oven. Not going for vulcan but maybe low earth orbit to dump them...Sent from my ancient phone using Brickpicker Forum mobile app Quote
