So I will take all that as a yes, it is a massive failure and I should definitely dump mine. Thanks.

What is a massive failure to you? Many bought at $99 or $150? I just sold five of my $99 sets on amazon for $290. If that is a fail then I guess I am doing it wrong.

This was a ship with very little screen time in the movies. I don't think anyone was expecting falcon or ISD performance.

Over a year post retirement and still going for msrp equals failure. Your bar is too low

people have different strategies about what they are buying and how long they figure on keeping things.

one mans trash is another mans treasure. just a difference in opinion.

Compared to msrp. Get a big enough discount and no set is a failure. That's just silly logic to use. Does that mean lone ranger is a winner of I got them all 90 percent off?

isnt something considered a winner if you make money off it?

if i buy something at 50% off and figure in my mind when i buy it my risk is i can sell it at msrp at least then its a winner cause i met my expectation.

if it doesnt meet my expectation when i bought it then id consider it a possible loser.

i dont think anyone was buying these thinking they were going to skyrocket after EOL because of how they didnt sell on shelves. I think people would hve been SHOCKED if it did better after EOL than it has.

At least this is my take.

Is this set officially a failure now? Think I will just put mine up for auction and see what happens just to get rid of them.

I am sure you know this already mscheaf, and was quite frankly kind of surprised you asked the question.  But, why do you care what others think of the set ? If you think it is a failure then by all means dump them. There is no point in asking then arguing with every answer that is contrary to what you think :)

MSRP was $199, not $290. 45% gain, retired just over a year. Sure it's not a modular-type return, but on the other hand there aren't ANY opportunities to buy multiple modulars at a 50% discount. If I had invested $200 in 2 B-Wing's in mid-2013 instead of investing that same $200 in one Town Hall, the 2 B-Wings would be the better return right now.

I say "if" because I have no skin in this game. As someone who doesn't have a position in B-Wings, they look like a fine investment choice. If you bought in at MSRP it will take you a lot longer to get a good return (after fees/shipping) than someone who bought in at 50% off, in which case it was a loser for you if you were hoping to sell in a year for a good return. For those who bought in at 50% off, this was/is a great investment. Have a nice day.

What part of these were fire sold at 99.00 do people not understand?

I too got in on this, but that was for one day right? (and i think a few e-tailers had it in and out of stock price matching this for,,,,a week was it? (please correct me if i'm wrong)

Wasn't it May 4th 2013? and then the following week for a while, then it quickly went back to full price once Lego.com was totally out of stock and others realized they didnt have to price match.

If you weren't around back (quite a while back now actually) then you wouldn't know this. It just looks like a $200 UCS that barely has moved up to $250.

The middle part.

There are 12 words and a number in the above.

Splitting to determine the middle I figure that would be the middle 6 words and the number amount.

So that would be

IIRC multiple retailers (Amazon, Target) had these available for an extended period of time in the $150-$160 range. $290 is still a great 1-year return at that buy-in price. In addition to the brief $99 sale, it was available at 20% off at Lego.com and probably even better discounts in B&M stores. Target had a BOGO sale that included this set which I think brought the price down to $140ish. (They shipped my two in such a way that all the seals popped which is one reason I don't have any of my own.) The point being, many people had opportunities to buy in at less than MSRP.

Pretty much any set that was widely available at a discount is going to take longer to appreciate back to and above MSRP. Any set you get at a special discount that wasn't widely available is going to give you a better return sooner. These are simple principles, simple enough for someone like me to understand at any rate.

This set is not a loser. It is performing at least to expectations and exceeding the (reasonable) expectations of many people. Someone who bought in at MSRP expecting to see SSD returns within a year is certainly feeling disappointed right now, but also living in Cloud Cuckoo Land, completely out of touch with reality. And in Cloud Cuckoo Land there are no frowny faces so that person shouldn't be complaining out loud.

Putting on a builder hat for a second...

I don't own any of these.  I wasn't participating on the forum yet when they went on sale for $99.  I'm 42, and a lifelong SW fan.

The B-Wing is my favorite ship from the OT.  I would *love* to have one for $99.  I may get one, someday, at $200.  Because that's reality.  I don't know that I'd pay any more than that.  But, I'd say that selling them at $200, with a $99 buy-in, is fantastic.
