eliminator
I was at my local Lego shop for about 15min this morning and watched 2 of these get purchased by older ladies...and the store didn’t even have any nutcrackers left. Ouch!

This is going to be another one of those home run flips and Lego can give the finger to anyone thinking it would not sell. Dec 11 (US) now. Regardless, I thought this is one of those sets that say 'ship in 30 days' but actually ship on the next day. lol

tacsniper
I cannot tell if he was being genuine or if he is mocking the re-release like we do with the new the DS when he mention LEGO made a color change to ONE of the cross axles and added a brick sperator... (at 44 seconds into the video)
Val-E
Well he had to say SOMETHING was new apart from the box. Maybe in ten years time they will have made a brick separator 2.0 and that could justify even more re-releases.

cissi
Judging from the eBay listings, looks like flippers are going nowhere with this set. Only asking for MSPR after shipping and fees? Can we expect to see future discounts on the set now? Yay~~~
steveviscious89
My head hurts just thinking about the build on that thing. So many repeats.....I'd never buy it. And if someone bought it for me, I'd make someone else build it.
Captain_chaos
So the initial QFLLs buy it, but then it becomes obvious that not that many people actually want this set, and many who said they did aren't buying. People only wanted this because it was rare and expensive. Now that it isn't, they aren't interested.

I wish someone with enough clout at the Lego Group brought this up before they went forward with a re-release. Or maybe they did and now we know the result. Fenix_2k1
It's the Beckham effect. He mentions set so it gets talked about. Lots of people ask Lego how to get it, Lego thinks there's demand so rereleases set but the world has moved on.
Phil B
Ever since the news on this re-release broke I have been hoping that it tanks, and will continue to hope it tanks. Let LEGO be stuck with a boatload of these large, shelf-occupying sets that nobody wants. 50% off fire sale BF 2018, quick retirement, end of the re-release experiment and lesson learned.

When the (perceived) value of a LEGO set far exceeds the enjoyment someone has in actually building it, then the Lego stopped being a building-set and became an investment object. The purpose of an investment object is to keep it in pristine condition with the purpose of selling it in at a future date for an increased price. When the Taj Mahal set was a rare set, people coveted to HAVE it as an investment object, believing it would increase in value over time. That made the demand for it. Now that 10256 Taj Mahal is available for everyone, there aren't actually that many who genuinely want to build and display it. Dr.Dad
I wanted it to build it, but now I have to wait out the investors or wait to see if it comes back in stock. It was too big prior to a move anyway...
marcandre
How is this being called a poor seller already? It sold out immediately and it's backordered a month. Just because it's not doing well for the qfll crowd hardly means it's a failure.
citymorgue
I happily bought the set and built it. And the fact that it's been on backorder since it first came out seems to tell me that the market of people actually buying it is much bigger than you guys think. My guess is, because of you guys who are primarily investors, live in your little investor bubble world, but what you forget is that as a percentage, you guys are tiny compared to the end users buying up product.
waddamon
Or they didn't make too many, managing risk. Sellers thought is was a falcon, it isn't. If the marker was that strong by consumers I would expect secondary prices higher for the new one. Not happening.

I miss the good-old-days when LEGO had 100% exclusive sets which often did well.

Loghamel
Wow, this thread is dead. Wondering what people's thoughts are on this set since it's been a couple of years. Looks to be an ok seller on Amazon (56,000). I have a chance to get a bunch sub-$300. How many of you would arm-sweep them at that price? It's a large box and shipping it isn't fun, although I'm FBA so I can ship a few in a single box at a time. Just wondering what everyone's thoughts are here. Bricklectic
they dont sell that quick - took me 2 weeks to sell recently at the lowest price. Still if you can clear $450+ post amazon fees its an easy yes
