comicblast Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 For sets that you might sell Used, do you keep the numbered plastic bags? Would it add to the value? Do you mean the see through bags that pieces come it? If so, I always throw them away. If they are used, just put the pieces in resealable bags, and the buyer would be satisfied. I doubt it adds value to it.... Quote
Sauromosis Posted February 10, 2013 Author Posted February 10, 2013 Good point...but yeah just a thought I had, would buyers want the original see through bags with numbers on them? Quote
Sauromosis Posted February 10, 2013 Author Posted February 10, 2013 Maybe it could make an ebay auction stand out. Quote

It does add value if you include the original box and/or instructions. Quote
ecbirx Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 I think the only value it adds is to communicate to others the level of care, you the seller, has taken to keep the set in excellent condition. As a buyer I would think that if the seller had the bags I would be more prone to believe them regarding the condition of the box, condition of brick, minifigs and so forth. Maybe it would make the difference in a sale for someone. Quote

Yes, If someone went to the trouble of keeping the neatly opened numbered bags - the odds are pretty good that they also obsessed with taking better care of the set. Quote
xXnumbnutzXx Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 My son makes me keep everything, whether it be a small peice of the numbered bags or a used sticker sheet. Everything must be put back in the box and carefully taped up and put in his closet. 6 year olds..... Quote

stackables Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 I throw mine away and put the bricks in zip lock backs. Once the bags are opened they just become ripped plastic bags. Don't see how they add any value to used sets. Quote

I guess I am obsessed I have kept every bag from every Star Wars set I have ever built. I open them at the seams so they're not ripped or anything. I believe I started doing this back when I collected classic space. You may now laugh and throw things... Quote
Sauromosis Posted February 11, 2013 Author Posted February 11, 2013 No need to throw things. I'm building Pet Shop and gonna keep them after cutting open with scissors. Quote

Don't see how they add any value to used sets. I actually do the same exact thing you do Stackables. Once a bag is ripped it no longer holds any value as the peices are no longer factory sealed which is what people pay a premium for. Quote
legochewbacca Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 Great discussion, this is my first post here on the forums... The answer is obvious to me. Yes, you should keep everything that originally came with the Lego set including the inner boxes and cardboard trays. As a collector and a hobbyist I can assure you that anyone paying a (1X+) multiple of retail for a set that they are finally able to obtain from you are going to want to experience as close to the new out of box experience as possible. Do not deny them their plastic bags people!! One of my most positive buying experiences of all time was from eBay and the plastic bags were included. This large set actually was professionally packed inside of a box and included it's original shipper box from Lego. Everything arrived in mint condition and only cost me .96 of retail shipped! Upon my request the seller broke down the model into it's original pieces and stated that it would take considerable time to do so. I was thrilled to receive my item with C.O.A. AND plastic baggies :| I had re-entered this hobby around the tail end of '08 and this set apparently had only recently become EOL. I was buying it because I really wanted it and just discovered its' existence. I did not have investment in mind. Collectable yes. Investment no. One other point to consider about hanging on to plastic bags is it provides you with valuable information... Say there is an auction at some point and there are just some numbered bags and a set number, but the seller has no idea if it is complete or not, say at like an estate sale or something. Well if you have your handy dandy collectible with plastic bags in tact, then walla you instantly have a resource for some useful information... Quote
