Toys "R" Us - 50% scraps are all that's left

Interesting video.  I didn't watch all of it.  Wasn't sure to post it here or in the Star Wars thread.  There's definitely a crash happening.  Not sure if it's toys in general or the Star Wars brand itself.   As a side note, my boys are watching the original Toy Story tonight.   It was made back when storytelling and fun characters were a priority over gender politics and brand recycling.

The guy sounds like a jerk. Now, I know that some companies pack up and ship slow moving merchandise from stores that are going to remain open to ones that are closing and clearancing stuff out. DO we know that's not what was happening? All that garbage may have most likely been the detritus of every TRU within 3 states. There's no way that a TRU backroom is so deep that they could hold that much product. as was shown. No manager would allow that level of the same product to pile up. Blaming Disney and Star Wars for the collapse of Toys R Us is ignorant and flies in the face of the physical realities that TRU has been in trouble for a long time. Pointing out the toys to life stuff and blaming the collapse on Disney is also ignorant because every one of those brands is collapsing including Dimensions and Amiibo and Skylanders which have 0 Disney content. Constantly mentioning SJWs sounded bitter and resentful.

Did Hasbro produce too much Star Wars product? oh yeah. Have they done it in the past? most definitely. Remember bins of Episode 1 Figures and all the toys that they sold to Toys R Us at massive discounts in about 2000? Hasbro was sitting on warehouses full of figures that they sold to Toys R US who then sold them to consumers at massive discounts. They got high on their supply, but eventually bounced back. They've diversified too much, trying to get Spaceballs the flamethrower up and running. But that's not what crashed Toys R Us, and it's not what killed the toy market. Tablets and their games as well as other digital content have done that.

Loved this comment on Brickset:

" Went in to my local TRU wanted to cash out my 20 bucks in reward points had my 2 brickheadz and a cmf when I got to the register the lady just put the stuff in a bag and said have a nice day, couldn't believe it.  "

note: I added that comma on the end there, but maybe we can appreciate it more as a run-on sentence.

Had a similar experience with a box of CMF's when Target went under in Canada. I guess some employees get pretty pissed at the companies and don't care/want to spite them ><

I wonder if all TRU exclusive sets including Speed Champions will soon be available to all retailers in North America?

If someone ends up buying TRU and trim the fat by closing good chunk of stores, LEGO will still have to honor any TRU exclusive sets? But maybe hard to find if there won't be too many TRU stores left? So maybe worth hoarding all the TRU exclusive sets now or get screwed if LEGO release it to all retailers.

In countries where there are no TRU, exclusive sets are either offered to other shops or remain SAH exclusives. If it´s an entire theme that is exclusive, expect it to be on general release.

Looks like they've pretty much shut off in-store pickup using their website.  Even items I know my local store has says not available for in-store pickup.  Not that I care, just interesting to see the incremental steps taken to slowly close shop.

I think it's always been like this for the most part.

Well not quite the same experience, but the employee at checkout pm'd (8) sets (4 ea the same) for me to the ToysRUs website. He had to do it manually, but there was no resistance.
I was surprised to see bare shelves around the store.
Business as usual until next Wednesday when Liquidation starts. GCs will be accepted first 30 days. I couldn't get confirmation about using reward points during liquidation so I didn't chance it.

Cardpool is at 21% off

I noticed that most of them say "In-Store Only," and only a few say "Use Anywhere," even though all but one listing is email delivery. Safe to assume any of these will be e-gift cards that can be used online or in-store? Thinking about picking up a Switch if there's a lower price out there to be matched and can pay with 21% discounted GC's.

I wouldn't get your hopes up too much for AWESOME LEGO clearance prices.

I talked with the local manager today (hoping to purchase a substantial amount of LEGO), and he informed me that the LEGO brand representative informed both local TRU that LEGO would be "pulling substantially all of their product" from the shelves, starting next week.

my local TRU has a big majority of their Lego section clearly marked as excluded from any reduction, which made me think that the vendor/Lego was going to be coming by for them in the coming weeks.

Coincidental or not, Local Lego Store employee said they have been getting more and more Speed Champion shipments in lately, especially the large Ferrari set.
