  1. 1. When will you buy your first 75192 UCS Falcon?

    • First day VIP early access purchase.
    • 2x VIP promo in October 2017.
    • Wait for discount of between 10%-19%.
    • Wait for discount between 20%-29%.
    • Wait for discount of at least 30%.
    • Wait until it shows solid signs of retiring.
    • No plans to buy this set.

I chose first day on the poll. Been following this thread and I believe a lot of the negative sentiment is 1) plain worry for those that feel they had or were onto a good thing with the past and 2) the impossibly high standards of MOCs created by talented people free of TLG business rules.

10179 broke the mold and with the slew of smaller MFs since nothing would ever have that impact again. It's nigh on impossible to make the same thing and hit the same mark of nostalgia etc.. Hell if TLJ is Empire 2.0 with an attempt to make it better I won't mind.

My only reason for picking up on day 1 rather than wait for double VIP is the risk that it will be temporarily out of stock by Oct 10 (like the Saturn V). No back order..

I'll pick another one up further down the line for my son. Assuming it's out for a few years.  I'm personally thrilled they made a new UCS MF. Even though the price is crazy. It's less crazy than 10179.

#5...2 Exclusive Minifigures plus 3 buildable figures...totaling 11 figs...not Bad

this is actually a huge let down since you can BrickLink 80% of those figures for 30USD w/ shipping.

C3PO - Escape Pod
Rey - Rey Speeder
Han TFA - Rathar Escape
Chewie - trash bin.
Pogos are not a figures, it's pile of bricks put together.
Finn - any TFA TLJ set literally.

I agree.  The minifigures are one of the weakest aspects of the set.  Minifigures are no longer "exclusive" with all of the counterfeits floating around.

10179 Pro's...

#11...and best of all...this is the only Set that can truly be called a "Legend" and will be referred back to for reference and set the bar documented as selling for well over $10,000 at its peak. Which is why when this is all said and done it will still hold value to those that appreciate its legacy.

Yes - A legacy similar to that of the tulip bulb.

Such a loaded question....but I'll take a shot in the dark here1f60e.png

10179 Pro's...

#1...an "original" Design...it broke barriers and set the bar for "what could be done"
#2...1st editions ...with letters of Thanks and praise from lego corporate with Numbered certificate AND a cool "30th anniversary" chrome sticker.
#3...the attention to detail regarding Basic "Lines" of the model shown in the pic below
#4...an original brick built Rear Engine exterior 324 pieces vs. 20ish on the 75192
#5...the boarding ramp ...the hydrolic Lift pistons are for some reason built towards the middle of the 75192...why??...lol
#6...7...& 8 are strictly opinion...but I think the radar dish print is better cleaner...the overAll color scheme is Better...the landing gear in my opinion is better as well
#9...good ol luke skywalker and Ben kenobi
#10...minimal stickers
#11...and best of all...this is the only Set that can truly be called a "Legend" and will be referred back to for reference and set the bar documented as selling for well over $10,000 at its peak. Which is why when this is all said and done it wil still hold value to those that appreciate its legacy.

my thoughts...

i think most folks will forget about 10179 and it will be a $600-$800 set (none of the key elements are really special anymore for MOCs - either been redone or being made again & it's another set that's probably considered dated).  while it's part of lego history, it's not really iconic anymore. it's no longer the 1952 topps or t-206 honus wagner of Lego sets.  when people became lego collectors since 2011,  one of the first things they learned about was the 10179 set and many prob immediately started to put it on their "wish list".

what does 10179 have left going for it?  it's no longer the largest nor most expensive lego set anymore.  it's been remade with an equal or better set.  i owned a 10179 with the 1st edition stuff.  that 1st edition stuff was a marketing gimmick but it meant something when 10179 was the only UCS MF.  now, i doubt most people will care if the 1st edition stuff is included or not.

i really don't mean to knock the 10179 set but like past great things, it's now just a footnote in Lego history because how good 75192 came out.

even as big 10179 fan, i have to face reality.

Guys, no need to be so pessimistic or optimistic~  Anyone notice that 10179 only contains European made bricks but 75192 also includes something made in China and Mexico? Does it matter one may ask? Yes, it certainly does (to me at least) :)

I respectfully disagree.  While prices might never hit levels it once did, a set doesn't become "uniconic."  Does a sports player become less of a legend when newer, better players come along?

Just got off the phone with my local Lego store (Canada). The store manager said that the black MF cards will be mailed directly to those who purchase the MF between 14 Sept and 31 Dec. The cards will be mailed direct to the customer, even if an in-store purchase. And this is for new or existing VIP members. He had no details about potential promos linked to the card or whether or not they are limited edition.

This for in-store purchases only correct? I was just going to order mine online at the crack of midnight. I'm nowhere near a Lego store where I am. But I would like that black VIP card :)

Any of you guys from Utah???  I just called the store, and the lady that answered refused to tell me exact numbers, but it sounds like it's going to be less than 10.  I'm asking how many are planning on going, because from the sounds of it, I'm going to have to be there stupid early to hopefully get there in time to bring this home day one.  I'm slightly freaking out now actually, because the lady also said people had asked if they could camp out but security had told them no they couldn't....

This is going to be interesting across the country because it sounds as if retail stores across the country are going to be in the single digits, and I have a feeling that stock issue might actually be even worse than Saturn V and I don't think Lego is going to be prepared for this....

i think  10179 is will become less <insert any of the following : desirable, iconic, appreciated, important)  each passing year even after 75192 is remade.

when folks asked what is the greatest lego set of all-time before Aug 2017, 10179 was always mentioned .  now folks will say 75192 or one of the other iconic sets.

i do like your example of sports players but lego sets are different

when michael jordan (10179) retired, he wasn't replaced with michael jordan 2.0 (75192).  new / different players such as kobe bryant, lebron games, etc took his place as elite players.

Looks like a DS II remake is coming to me.

oh brother.   i wish they would just make a death star  from a new hope and rogue one.  yeah, i know that set could seem boring.  however, that death star seems to be the more iconic one of two especially with the recent screen time in rogue one

I see the potential for a Star Wars 3-1 in set....

1) DS From ANH

2) DS From RotJ

3) Destroyed DS as a big pile of bricks

I don't think the 75192 will ever be considered iconic.  Largest doesn't mean special or best...just largest.  There will be very little emotional connection with this set in comparison to the 10179 IMO.  Mark my words on this date...Once the 10179 hits rock bottom, it will appreciate (% wise) better than the 75192.
