I am relatively new to all of this. Just looking at auctions on eBay, how/why would somebody sell a pre-order for under $1000. After taxes and shipping that big box there's no way any money could be made?

Because they are evil.

Because they are stupid.

Because they can.

LOL if this turns out to be a turkey because of its "Parson's Nose".

I'm not a big fan of the trans blue tube element when used as an exhaust. It kinda looks cheap.

IMG_1317.JPGRegardless of the set still looks EXCELLENT.  Maybe just not a first month (let alone 1st day) buy.

Not sure why the trans blue 2x1 plates didn't carry over from 10179.  IMG_0307.JPG

Yup here we go....324 pieces to retro fit a bare minimum decent build from 2009's 10179

Maybe more maybe less....

sigh?

But hey...it gives us somthin to Do ...wouldn't be the first time us lego fans don't correct a SnaFU!!

???

Too bad.  It could have been the coolest part of the ship if done correctly with some light bricks and modern build techniques.  I would have paid $1000.00 if they really made an effort here.

TLG couldn't make a (nearly) perfect UCS Falcon this time out.  They need something to improve, besides the bottom, on the ROTJ version in 2027.

I've never chatted with Lego CS before so not sure how accurate they are in providing info.  I was told that the set will NOT be available for in store purchase on Sept. 14, but will only be available for "pre-order" from shop at home.  CS also indicated the set will NOT be available on Oct. 1 in store either.  It will be available for purchase in store at some point, but are not sure when.  What a bummer if this is true and you want to be an early buyer.

Pardon my French but 'complete bollocks'.

Not true at all. The employee at Lego said they would be available IN STORE and ONLINE on the 14th for VIP membership...

Yeah that's what I've heard everywhere else as well.  Even my local LEGO store shared they would have some, just don't know yet how many.  The inconsistency of information is really confusing.

Is there an actual time that VIP preorder starts?

No reason to believe it won't be the same as all previous sets so officially midnight but worth checking from 11pm onwards, the new TLJ sets where available to purchase on Thursday at around 11:30pm

Curious to hear what people think about this as a long-term investment?  Obviously there will be QFLL en-mass for the holidays and this set, but beyond that I think the potential for a good return is high as, God willing, they will not remake the MF a 3rd time...I'm considering purchasing multiples to keep long-term (and one of course to build).

Huge box, high price, lots of investors. A bad idea.

The space isn't an issue for me, price is what it is.  Pretty much the only concern (for me) is that Lego never retires the set and it continues to be available for the foreseeable future.  All you are fighting is inflation since I never see this set dropping below RRP.

It will be on sale on Amazon for at least 20% off RRP at some point.

Still new to this, historically what has that time frame been between a release of a new set and a discounted sale with significant quantities available?

Every set is different.  If it goes on sale quickly, it's a dog.

Short production run is the key.  There will be another UCS Falcon in 10 years, so plan accordingly.

Buy $800 worth of small sets from 2016. Sell in 2018. Rinse, repeat until signs of 75192 retiring start popping up. Then buy 75192.
