ditto.  perfect box condition is over-rated anyway.

From what the LEGO salesperson told me, a damaged box for the new MF will never happen.  Like the Porsche Technic sets, each one of these is coming in their own box.  Apparently LEGO is shipping more and more of their larger sets this way now.

What's the going rate in Lego stores for box damage?

Depends on the set but the larger ones seem to be topping out at 500 points (people used to get 1000 points). I wouldn't hold your breath that this set gets a damaged box discount.

...which would  explain why Lego showed that 75192 teaser with wheels and a handle.  it would get sold in an outer box (e.g. shipping box  / case)

I've typically seen 10% off. But sometimes it's just additional VIP points, and for that I have no idea what is typical, as it seems to vary widely.

Damaged boxes will happen. Even if these are somehow indestructible in the shipping process (which isn't possible, guys), they could still be returned after the customer damages the box.

But even so, why sell so low when you could get over £1k?
I wouldn't bother for less than 50% gross

I'd be perfectly happy to sell one for £750 cash in hand, considering how little effort would be involved. I look at it more from the perspective of how many hours / how much work involved, rather than percentage ROI.

The ninjago city sets boxes were nearly all damaged at Leicester Square today

people picking the box up by the top flap, causing it to rip under the weight.

they didn't look too nice

They need to put up "All breakages will be paid for" stickers. If I ran that shop, I'd have one box of each on the shelves and give each customer a new mint one from the back. They'll soon realise when more and more people start asking for discounts due to box damage. Personally, I can't stand the place, it's just too busy and too many browsing and not buying. It's a SHOP not a damn tourist attraction!

Disappointed that the box is just plain ol' cardboard.  Was expecting / hoping for a matte finish or even a vellum-like texture to really set it apart.  This looks like the box my latest tv came in...

I agree.  I thought it would be a slide off cover like some of the small SDCC sets.

I just feel that the way they have been hyping it and promoting it so much and that it'll be available early to VIPs before the general public has a chance to even know about it unless they randomly see it on some website, I think Lego prepared for this one pretty well to have enough in stock and not have too many issues. I could be dead wrong but just my feeling about it.

Model on display at local LEGO store today but no box in sight. Walk in customers are ohhing and ahhing but may have a hard time with the price ($900CDN). In the 2-3 minutes I was standing by the display 3 people commented it must cost about $500-$600. I tell them it will be $900 and they are all were speechless. Maybe seeing the size of the box on the shelf will help convince them later on...

If LEGO knows whats good for them, this could be the high end toy for X-mas and plenty of stock is sitting in warehouses. If order's are still met past mid October, then we will know.

Still a bargain compared to the Netherlands 949 CHF is around € 830, we have to pay 849 :(

No, we do not have to pay that. It is €799 in Germany and about £650 in London. There are worse reasons to plan a short trip over there. You can actually have some fun doing so.

(I live about 5km from the German border, so for me this is basically a no-brainer...  I must admit that I have a hard time understanding Lego's pricing model).

This is my experience with some local Lego collectors I know. $900 is outta their price range - never mind the tax that'll push that over $1k.

It will be great PR for TLG if they can say it sold out on the first day. How many they made available and to whom is irrelevent.

I plan on buying this in April, when I should be receiving my tax return. And by then it should only be half price for me because I should have enough credit card points to cut the price of it in half.

And groan about reseller scum. They're whining about 10179 scalpers on Brickset in the comments about 75192.

I agree with previous poster this set will probably stick around for years like 10188 which is still available.
