just watched 2 times and Brick Vault initial impressions helped a lot to determine this set.

I'm disappointed with minifigure selection or more of lacking of uniqueness, for this price we should have get more. We have same figures from cheap TFA sets with slightly updated Rey's face.

I feel like maybe you're hard to impress.............

First Impressions....

  • Love the box...Classic black.  Red orange planet looks awesome.  Font is professional and worthy of the UCS title
  • Limit 5...They have plenty to sell and this will be around for awhile
  • Minifigures...I wish they had Luke, R2 and Obi-Wan thrown in, but it is an obvious hint to another future EMPIRE STRIKES BACK set
  • Ship...Very nice upgrade over the 10179.  As expected, some minor, but appreciated inner details, but more than enough to satisfy me.  The two dishes are a great option.
  • Effect on the 10179...Short term...BIG HIT...Long term...Not so much.  The two sets are different enough that there will be collectors in the future that want the 10179, especially the First Edition.  No special edition of this set hurts it IMO.  That was a home run collectible set.  Now, it's just one of many others which could be around for a long time.
  • Price point...I like it...Keeps the dilettantes away.
  • Overall. I'm not happy with any remake, but if you are going to do it, do it right.  LEGO did it right.

I think long-term will be a big hit.  10179 will never reach 2k - 3k levels again.  We will be lucky if it rises to 1k again.

The same could be said for this set as well...I am not expecting the 10179 to hit levels it did in the past, but there will be a point where the bleeding stops and it starts to appreciate once again.  I could make a case that the 10179 First Edition is even more collectible than this set.

No so much? Sorry, but unless by long term you are talking post apocalypse - you are being extremely generous with your optimism.

These are some very sad times for LEGO investors.

Don't underestimate the power of nostalgia....Look at some of the classic town sets,  High value even though a multitude of re-releases and today's sets that are better in every way.  Again nostalgia is a powerful force.

i suppose it's exclusive to SAH?

It would be nice, but I somehow doubt it. 10179 was unexclusive and I remember getting mine from Modelzone for £299.99.

I have just bought a used with box and instructions 7190 to complete my collection from when they first released Lego Star Wars the only ship I didn't purchase and if the price was right I would buy a 10179 to have all the Falcons 1 day.

The new pictures and designer video convinced me to buy this day one.  I'm  disappointed there is no Lando or Bespin Luke but I can live with that.  I love the interior details, especially around the corridor.  The exterior looks amazing.  The box is OK.  Could it be better?  Sure.  But at least they didn't totally screw it up like the lame artwork on 75159.

As a collector and AFOL, I have no reason to buy the 10179 unless it hits about $500 new/sealed.  I'm not trying to rub salt in the wound for investors of that set, I'm just giving you an honest opinion of my view on that set vs. this superior model.  I'd rather have an extra sealed copy of 75192 if that makes any sense (probably doesn't).

Congrats to LEGO for hitting a home run on this.  So many great models lately, they've really delivered for their customers.  The DS remake sucked for the 10188 investors like myself, but I'm willing to forgive and forget.  Long live the queen!

My opinion is that long term, the First Edition 10179 is more collectible than this set...unless of course this set retires in a year or there is some special option coming.  I think the 10179 will take a major hit and then rebound at some point.  Will it ever reach $5000.00 again?  No, but there will be buying opportunities of MISB 10179s that will appreciate in the future.

This is a bittersweet moment for me as well.  I can see the damage this set will do to the 10179, but to me, I was never selling mine anyway, so I really didn't care.  Overall, there are many issues affecting the LEGO secondary market and many are negative, but as a LEGO fan, I acknowledge the fact that LEGO did a top notch job with the set.  They didn't cheese out and it will bring new LEGO fans back into the marketplace.

So, if I recall correctly, the original geek culture post back in April indicated a world wide retirement of this set on December 31, 2018. They got everything else correct. What do you think about the legitimacy of this data?

I agree with you completely. I'm excited about the included interior. I can't wait to get this set on day 1. I'll be building it immediately!

If this set retires in a year, then it is a whole new ballgame.  Do you really think LEGO went through all this trouble for a one year release with the new Han Solo movie coming out?  LOL

So given all the negativity on 10179. Could a few months time actually be a good time to buy some 10179 and grab yourself some bargains?
Could be a risky strategy and many will say, don't do it, but as a long term investment.......

No.  There are better options out there to invest capital with less risk.

I feel the same as Shewie.  I wasn't worried about getting 24 figures or something crazy, but for $800, getting figures we can get in a set at Walmart is dumb.  Han and Leia with the breathing masks was an excellent choice, but TFA figures are a waste.

When I first heard the dreaded "s" word, I shuddered.  But after seeing the stickers in the video, they aren't bad.  Great forced perspective on the hallways like they did with the Death Star.

Without a 1st Edition, probably not a Day 1 buy for me anymore.  That said, Lego absolutely smashed this out of the park for the build and updates to 10179.

Exactly. This set will be around for YEARS. There is potential to make money flipping after release but the scammers will be out in full force. Not touching this set with a 10 foot pole.
