Agreed. Unless there is a significant premium where you clear a few hundred after fees and postage one to stay well clear of. Risk is huge with this one whether it be fraud, damaged in transit etc. Still on the fence whether this will be a day one purchase for me. May hold off till Double VIP or discounts become available since I can't see this being an everyday purchase meaning supply will be an issue

Wow, I am impressed how quickly you guys can convince yourselfs of not buying it....

More for me...

I will defiantly buy it but at a point in time when with discounts, promos you can reduce your buy in. Why pay $799 / £650 when you can get it for equivalent 20% off RRP. This one ain't going anywhere anytime soon.

Makes no sense mate. Its got a big new shiny  box, but it's the same set.

And you can get it new for at least $1000 cheaper with 2000 more pieces

And now an important question - which sense does it make to keep the old one?

That hasn´t made sense since 2015 but people still cling to hope. If it´s a numbered original run then it has collectible value. If it´s not, then it´s only of interest to people wanting to make the complete UCS collection and scammers.

I don't have an original but will be using this as an opportunity to pick one up since it is THE set. Will look to have the original in a docking bay 327 moc and the new one on a Bespin landing platform that I am currently designing.

Even on display it would look weird to have the whole UCS collection with same ships in different design or size...

You´d need a pretty big display cabinet/room too.

Anyway, since when has things looking weird bothered SW fans?

Time to unload dead stock asap and make some serious space in the loft.  It's getting them up the loft ladder that I'm concerned about 1f62c.png

Make sure you add it to your house contents insurance! I've never kept big sets at home, too dodgy ;-)

As far as the 10179 values - to me, it looks potentially horrifying.

Imagine all of the 10179's that are going to be dumped on the market, as buyers purchase the upgraded model (with very few buyers interested).

Many will also look to justify their $800 purchase by selling their 10179's.

Yes, there are some that might keep 2 of these monsters on display, but that will be a very limited number of collectors.

I will be happy to get my 2200 Euro back... (currently 1500 - 7 days befor auction close).

I have not bought it for investment purpose but for my private UCS collection, therefore please don't mention that is was valuated already at nearly 5000 Euro... :-)

Collecting LEGO or anything really is a gamble. Whether it is for your personal collection or investment.

The Millennium Falcon was always going to be remade at some point, it is unreasonable to think it would never be revisited. It is the most iconic ship from one of the most popular franchises of all time. This set has been rumoured for years now and people have had plenty of time to offload the old one if they wanted to. With the new one coming out soon it would probably be best to hang onto the old one until the hype dies down. I think sealed versions will sell just fine, it is the used ones that will be hard to move.

I'm not looking forward to the eBay horror stories as the scammers will be out in force once this is out for resale. I suggest a cash sale away from your house and take a large intimidating person with you! Remember, you'll have a battle on your hands stopping eBay from siding with the buyer even if you have proof of postage. Every large set I have sold in the past was a cash deal, NEVER PayPal. At best, insist on bank transfer as chargebacks may be a problem. The buyer is still protected however they pay.

eBay security is amongst the worst online and I struggle to see while they're still in business. Why can't they simply introduce a 2-factor login when buying, something like a VPN hardware token? How hard can it be? That way, a buyer cannot say that they were hacked or didn't intend to buy.

10179 buyers now need to decide between selling now (certain £££'s loss from peak) or hold for another decade. The original version normally wins in the end.

I would like another 10179, but I'll not pay more than £342.49 (RRP) for it ;-)

No sympathy... it serves them right for being greedy as there's been plenty of time and lots of meat to the remake rumour. At least I sold my 10179 at close to peak when I first sniffed trouble ahead.

Also we have to assume that LEGO will have no problem producing an enormous amount of these. There may be a QFLL opportunity if LEGO decide to gauge demand before churning out at full speed.

Not if the "remake" is much bigger and better...

What if performance is as dire as Red 5? We all know the game has changed. There's a risk of being stung badly if you go all in. 3 years ago, I've have bought non-stop, now I'm buying just 2.

It looks like LEGO will remake EVERY already released UCS set (which was not made twice already) because they are simply iconic to every one of us...

Yeah, at some point someone o the board will think we need a new B Wing.
