If that Chinese pic is real, it doesn't sound like there will be a numbered first edition of the set.  It will probably just be various promotions included, but nothing that differentiates a Falcon box from the initial run or a year later.

Good point.  If that's true, it will be a huge marketing and sales mistake for LEGO.  HUUUUUGE.  People will wait for the discounts...

I agree.  Personally, I will wait for discounts/VIP points if there is no numbered edition.  But, if there is a numbered edition, my credit card is coming out the first minute it is available.

I overpaid for an early release...

Lol. Although to be fair, you can't really be a LEGO fan if you haven't come to terms with "overpaying" for it. I mean, no matter how you slice it, even if you get this thing 50% off it will still be hundreds of dollars for plastic brick...

News from my local Legostore:

They recieved their copy of the Millennium Falcon for display on Force Friday and are currently building it.
They will also accept reservations for it after September 11th, once they know how many they're getting in stock.

Did you ask them if the picture was real?

Interesting. Anybody think there's any chance that a limited edition numbered first release might be so limited that someone who really wants one might miss out on release date?

Or is the price tag going to be high enough such that it isn't a risk? (i.e. there will be enough first editions to go around before "public" release on Oct. 1)

Just to let you know that's not Lego Store employee responsible for building those sets for LEGO.
They have their own Master Builders in different countries which are responsible for preparing the complete set for transporting and displaying it in proper angle in the store.

Just to clarify some things here.
besides of that, Lego Leicester Sq employees are keeping their mouth shut and no one is willing to hint a single detail about pricing, because the final model I already saw 2 weeks ago in digital.

Are you talking about the big models or a real set for display? LEGO store employees in USA build real sets for display on the checkout counter or in the back.

That is correct, even my kids and I had helped to build the sets they display in the store......

In my LEGO store yesterday the only employee in store at the moment was doing double duty assisting customers and building Ninjago City for display.

I don't know how it looks in US but I can speak for North Korea, UK (London) and Germany (Berlin).

North Korea has an early release I believe...

Shepards bush must be different to Leicester sq since all the large sets including Star Wars ucs sets are built by Pablo who is a big AFOL

Pablo?  As in Picasso?

Can't be the same Pablo, since the new Falcon is supposedly a work of art and as to quote val-e old pablo's stuff was a pile of poo (well in my opinion)!

Well so we have a problem here because this is info from his manager - Lucia and you probably know exactly who I'm talking about.

I know the staff of Shepherds Bush :)

How realistic is the suggestion that this will have a detailed interior thus accounting for the increase in brick count? Assuming the leaked photo is legit, the new version seems to be a similar physical size to the old one. I don't have the original UCS MF set but I've heard that the bulk of its interior is taken up by the frame required to support the weight of the externally visible pieces. Hence would there be room inside the new one to include a detailed interior?

I believe the piece count would allow for some interior...Not expecting the whole ship.  Probably just the back half.  I will be quite dissapointed if there is not at least some interior
