  1. 1. When will you buy your first 75192 UCS Falcon?

    • First day VIP early access purchase.
    • 2x VIP promo in October 2017.
    • Wait for discount of between 10%-19%.
    • Wait for discount between 20%-29%.
    • Wait for discount of at least 30%.
    • Wait until it shows solid signs of retiring.
    • No plans to buy this set.

Just curious but has any set that has been available for vip early access ever sold out and then not been available again on the actual release date?

Last year I believe there were some initial shortages of the Holiday Train after the VIP early access window.

My view on this set for investment is:

If there is a certificate or some sort of thing for the first 500-1000 I will buy a few. If not, it's not worth the trouble. Scammer central, and too much trouble for hoping that someone will want to pay 40% or whatever over RRP to make it worthwhile after resale fees etc. Just not worth the hassle for a quick flip.

Although the Saturn V won't be around as long, people have been snapping it up for more than retail despite it not making a lot of fiscal sense. Sometimes the heart wants what the heart wants. There are many, many Star Wars fans out there that will probably view $1200-$1500 as a bargain compared to the $3500-$5000 selling price of the original. If this set isn't widely available, it's officially  on.

And that's called "scalping." Have some decency and let the people who really want it get it. There will be plenty of time to pick some up later for investment purposes when they're more widely available.

Something to consider is the Saturn V was a fantastic price at retail.  I mean 120 bucks for an almost 2000 piece set.  I think this contributes to the paying flipper prices of 200+ on it.  THe New UCS MF will have the hefty Disney tax tacked on and will be far less appealing from a part to price ratio.  That being said if they knock this one out of the park people will be clamoring for it regardless of price.  One thing I have learned is that the public has more disposable income than you would think judging by new iPhone sales every six months.

I did not go.  Had a few friends there and was keeping up with it.  Only been to Cali once.  First eBay live they flew out the powersellers and gave hotel.  Was only like 1000 or so that year.  Next year was like 10k and never free again.  All I did was explore the coast.

Very nice. I first become a Bronze Power Seller in 1999. Too late.

Technic Porsche was sold out within few hours after VIP early access was available broadly. Came back to stock about month or two later, same story we can expect with the Millennium Falcon I can assure you. The one thing is certain.  Due to large size of the box and difficulties with storage it I don't think stores will be hoarded up to the ceiling with those. Some of the busiest stores should think about making a reservation list or something to avoid Black Friday scenes that no one really ask for. Having this in mind I think this one will be a heaven on earth to everyone who will be able to snag one and QFLL fast. If the first wave will have numbered boxes with certification, that's only better.

That's not how the QFLL rolls. I was going to say you must be new around here, but you're not.

I guess it's a personal choice whether you choose to be a scalper/QFLL or just stay with the good old reseller scum crowd.

If it's available for VIPs in mid-September, I'm really gonna be torn if there is some sort of Limited Edition right off the bat.  I would vastly prefer to wait to purchase in October and pick up $80 in VIP points, as opposed to only $40 in September.  Plus you'll probably get the first Christmas freebie in October.  I guess I would prefer that they don't release this one early to VIPs, but I'm certain that won't happen.  The more I think about it, I'm thinking there will really have to be something special about the initial release to get me to buy it in September.  The perks of October are just too good.

If they release it September 1 for Force Friday, you'll be able to take advantage of the 2x VIP points promo they are running for Star Wars items September 1-3. Plus a free Scarif Stormtrooper poly.

It won't be out on Force Friday. That's when we'll hear the announcement. The Sept 14 release date is from the store calendar. It doesn't identify the set, but conventional wisdom says it will be one of the two mystery VIP early access sets that day.

You might be out of luck though, if you gamble to wait for the October/November promos/freebies. If the same scenario happens to the new UCS MF that happened to the Saturn V then there might be a long time of the set being TOOS after the initial production run is sold out. And you'll be watching from the sideline while those who jumped in quick and got their VIP early access orders are selling them at good profits. :P

I think there will be a HUGE amount of the new MF produced after the first initial run. A lot of people will soon pluck $800 out of thin air knowing that there's a very high chance of making $400+ profit within days of the first run selling out within hours - which it will of course! These days, we can't underestimate that vast amount of these that may be produced. It's Disney and Disney are greedy so it'll be milked for many years to come. Just wait until the next Saturn V run hits the shelves, it'll be sat around for a while.

Don't buy too many or you'll be stuck with them for a very long time.

I'll be buying one regardless, but I can wait for the discounts down the line.

I think I'm going to ride the hype-train on this set. Take the day off work, be first in line at the Lego Store, go home and start building right away.

I'm setting my expectations high, but still trying to be a realist. I just want:

-Numbered first production run
-Same size/scale as 10179
-Some added reinforcement and external detail
-A few interior features (not expecting much)
-Printed pieces
-Exclusive mini-figs
-Premium packaging and instructions
-Nice to have: engine light bricks and/or a display stand

I only said that it was sad - The 10179 has represented something special, and to many, it may very soon represent little more than a foolish wasted investment.

The only thing foolish is not selling when it hit £5K.

This set will be available for a long time. No need to worry about it selling out. So many factors....box size, price, storage, early access for VIPs. It'll be around for a long long time. Anyone who pays more than retail for it well...god bless your heart.

Yep, this isn't going to be the number 1 Xmas gift idea due to the cost.

So anyone with any sense will wait until it gets back in stock than paying £400 over the odds for it.

I've waited this long for one, I certainly won't pay more than face value for it when it comes out.

True if spoken from the perspective of a reseller. Fortunately for those trying to make money in the resale game, people actually collect LEGO sets. I think the essence of @KShine's point is that continued remakes do seem to devalue the product as a collector's item.

I think people are highly overestimating the amount of buyers who are looking to spend $1k+ on a set.  Obviously a lot less people will be able to afford scooping up UCS Falcons to resell compared to most other sets, but there will still be enough that this will be no different than any other set where people will be fighting for the slimmest margins possible in no time.

I'm sure some people will gladly take the double VIP points and a free promo and flip this bad boy cheap enough just to break even.
