Yes, I had a similar experience with ordering the Saturn V. I ordered on June 1st. Estimate was June 21 if I remember correctly. Got it on June 9.

Well, I don't want to inflict any false hope, but that is what happened.

Debbie the downer here...

quoted 4 weeks for the Saturn V and got it 7 weeks later. They called twice to ask if I wanted to cancel.

BUT apples and zucchinis...

I've had a few LEGO Shop at Home orders for items that were backordered and almost all of them were shipped well in advance of the estimated date. Only one time did I have an order that took longer than the estimated date.

If someone might wonder how LEGO Shop at Home is shipping MILF here you can find the complete unboxing.
I think it's overall well secured but this dent on the front is... What's your take on this?

The availability or lack thereof and the way LEGO is handling it continues to amaze me.  Just spoke with my local store and they are expecting to receive this set in their regular shipment tomorrow.  They also indicate receiving multiple calls this morning on availability with customers expressing to line up for store opening.  I get that this is "good" for the retail store, but when there are so many dissatisfied online backorders why wouldn't you shift your inventory to fulfill those customers who ordered first?  Surely it is more important to the overall business to reduce the noise of frustration from the online backorders than it is to sell this in store?  Which is more important from a marketing perspective?  The large number of customers expressing dissatisfaction with LEGO on social media and to their CS or the 10 people who will line up outside stores anticipating the delivery and will be buying nothing else?

I tried to talk to store employees about it last week.  I think they might just be clueless at the Columbus store.  They weren't doing anything else and I was like one of two people in the store, but they seemed really uncomfortable talking to me about it and couldn't answer any of my questions about how many they had, how many were lined up, etc.  They may not have been there during opening, but they are always clueless at this store.

Is that the OH store you are referring to?  If so, do we have anyone here representing the Cinci store?  I have not made my way to the store as I figured a larger market here for LEGO than other areas it feels.

Yes, I've never been to the Cincy store.

The Cleveland Lego Store got in 4 on Thursday, had a line at 6am and sold out immediately. Got 7 more on Friday, 4 people were lined up before open, I made it there at 10:15 and got one of the two sets they had left. Haven't checked on any more deliveries this week.

Yeah I get this a lot at my local store.  Here it all depends on who you are speaking with.  Some get really nervous, won't look at me, and then try to assist other customers in the middle of speaking with me as if they are afraid to talk about it.  Others are very open, excited to talk about it, and provide as much information as they know.

Let's face facts...If everyone could walk into the store or order one online, who would be talking about it?   The buzz has been building for months (even years) and it's done.  The 75192 is a great set that was built to impress, but so was the 10179.  They are not so different as to create some never ending dialog as to how wonderful it is.  The buzz about the set itself is over and has been factored into the various LEGO forums for a long time.  It reminds me of the stock market...Certain thing are just factored into it.

By creating a shortage of sets, people will complain and moan, but they will still be talking about the 75192.  Even bad publicity is good publicity...

Nah, I want this one to build.  Got the wife to approve the purchase, but the delay is making me nervous that she could change her mind anytime.  I better behave

Unlike the vast majority of sets since 2012,  both 10179 and 75192 share one great thing.

The buzz is about the set itself and not the minifigs.  Like the Fishing Shop, Ferris Wheel, etc..., people seem to actually care more about the bricks & what they build far more than those 1.5" things :)

For people who are curious...

My local store just gave me a rang stating they are expecting some copies tomorrow. People on the wait list are instructed to be there at 10am to purchase. They are not allowed to hold them for wait listed people.

Same experience for me at this store, which is why I rarely go across town to shop there.  Hopefully you didn't raid any stores while you were in Columbus, though there probably isn't much left after the last round of Walmart clearance.

I didn't waste my time in the Columbus stores, but I was also short on time.

So if someone not on the wait list just lined up outside, and ended up in front of someone on the wait list, they would get first crack? Essentially making the wait list useless?

I think what they are doing is based on how many units they are receiving tomorrow, they went down the wait list and called each person. I bet there are more ppl on the wait list than amount of units they will be receiving tomorrow. Essentially, it's reserved for wait listed people at 10am. If some don't show up, they continue calling down the list until all tomorrow's units are claimed.

I could be wrong though. I'll report back tomorrow.

Does LEGO have a blanket store policy on holding items in general or is it up to each store?  I've seen items stashed behind the registers in the past with people coming in to pay and pick up at the store here in Cinci.

Shortages, especially in the enthusiasts communities are huge sales drivers.  When something is thought to be limited life, and now hard to get... FOMO kicks into and drive sales.

FOMO = Fear of Missing Out - the 'fan community' fans this like crazy.  Vendors seed the communities, people want, "tough to find" keeps the noise level going, users see all the activity from the sidelines and get anxious "everyone is talking about this.. I better buy it!!".

I agree.  It's a devious tactic in marketing.   What's even funnier is that people aren't even talking or complaining about an $800.00 LEGO set.  Normally, there would be a huge backlash around here about the MSRP.  Not with this set.  It's possible that some perceptive LEGO employee knew by creating this issue, combined with the limited early VIP release and signing event (which resulted in exploding values on secondary market sites), the $800.00 price tag would seem like a bargain.
