So the 100 London ones are basically useless pieces of high-priced collector memorabilia and it´s the postal copies that are useful for the promos and accumulate VIP points that are worthless? Got it.

Yup. I just read the link above and it also says name printed on it.... even more sure you won't be selling that. The Londons ones were just a gimmick to get you in the door... if you buy that plus a 75192 on the secondary market, you aren't eligible for any of the "promos and specials" in 2018.

Hope the buyer who just shelled out 4700 GBP on this one knows that. The seller did mention it in FAQ to be fair.....

Judging by the questions some people don't...  That's a lot of money but at least it includes the wrist band for the queue (wtf).

I think more than a few other sellers were misleading people about the importance of the cards or just misinformed. This one seems reasonably honest what with the charity donation / tax credit, however you want to see it.

I wonder if it would be grounds for a SNAD if the seller promised the card would give promos.

The store displays play an interesting function for LEGO. Their presence is largely disproportional compared to the core audience of kids, and while their primary function in most cases is not promoting their own sales, it is still an important factor. Actually, my company did research on this, and it can be mainly attributed to the following:

  1. Draws attention of adults, even if not being AFOLs. As a result, their patience to enter and spend time in a toy store is increased, which adds to the likelihood of a successful sale.
  2. Parents seeing that complex adult targeted offerings are available, the toy is considered to be more mature than the competitors. This creates the perception that it helps more to develop the kids. These days this is a very important selling point.
  3. Sets goals to the kids. It shows that there will be more and better when they grow, and kids always want to play with stuff that adults use. Once kids know that adults also play LEGO, the desirability is increased, so they can be perceived more mature among their peers.
  4. Relatively cheap and easy to change decoration for the company.
  5. Displays promote impulse buying. To be an impulse buyer you need cash, and who has cash? Adults. An adult impulse buying a T1 or a falcon is much more likely than a kid doing that with a police station.

This all sounds mumbo jumbo, but the underlying, often subconscious, psychological influences play a very large role in product sales. LEGO is no different.

So in plain English, they use their prime store square footage and display area to entice adults.  Thanks for confirming my point.  LOL.

Anybody in the US knows about any store receiving new MF units this week?

My local store said they are receiving more units on Thursday this week, giving people on the wait list priority; the ones who did not receive a copy on opening day were put on said wait list.

This is Arundel Mills, MD.

Great! So are we starting to see a trend here? Were Lego claims that they won't have any on Oct 1st pure bullshit?

My local store won't even do wait list. It is first come first serve.

My local store in PA said they got some the day after the launch but none since...and didn't give me any info about expected stock coming.

Yeah same at my store which is really frustrating as I was told to check back this coming Thursday.  They said the second shipment received Friday was smaller in quantity and surprised them.

Well this is My Order Status material, but seems more relevant here?

LEGO CS finally confirmed my "backordered" estimated shipping date to be Oct. 19.  Freaking Oct. 19th.  That's crazy.  I've never backordered from Lego before.  Do they underpromise and over deliver or are their estimates a best case scenario?

Usually they ship well ahead of estimated date, in my experience at least.

It will be very interesting to see in the next couple of weeks if any stock manages to make its way to SAH, and if so, what happens to peoples "backorders".  Asking for a proper riot if they allow units to be sold/shipped in a new wave on SAH prior to fulfilling previous backorders.

Yes, that is true. The funny bit, that I highlighted in the comment, is that the main goal of this enticing is not selling these sets to the adults. Of course LEGO is happy if they sell, but the desired end result is image building and exacerbating kiddie sets sales. LEGO's problem with most AFOL sets is that they command way lower margin than regular retail stuff, they are mostly there to generate mind share. A new police station won't trend on buzzfeed or reddit.

Yes, I had a similar experience with ordering the Saturn V. I ordered on June 1st. Estimate was June 21 if I remember correctly. Got it on June 9.

Well, I don't want to inflict any false hope, but that is what happened.

My local store got 3 on Monday and expect to have a few on tomorrow morning's shipment. I'm currently out of town until the end of the week, so my wife is going to swing by for opening to try to get one for "us".

I was going to wait, but I don't want to miss out on the MF VIP card.

Could someone who does get one drill the stores as to where they came from and see if they are still first batch seal codes?
