In 2007-2008 that was a logical assumption that 10179 was a one off. Star Wars was still owned by George Lucas. There were no films planned to be made. I think Clone Wars was running on TV (never watched it) and that was it.

Now Disney have it and we have Movies scheduled at least until 2020 and I suspect once Episodes 7, 8 & 9 are done - assuming its been treated as a trilogy - they will do 10 - 12 which will take us to 2026.

I agree, greedy Disney will milk the franchise for as long as it can, and so will LEGO. Those buying more than 1x 75192 will likely face disappointment down the line and I very much doubt that history will repeat itself. Undercutters will be waiting in the wings to ensure that profit, if any, is kept low.

LEGO... Your half-arsed attempt to recreate the rear of the ship has stopped me buying one! If you're going to con us out of £649.99, at least make it look good! Why should I MOC it if your lazy designers couldn't be bothered?

If we extrapolate the poll results, this set is going to sell out on day one - assuming people put their money where their mouths are.

I feel sorry for the Old Fishing Store and Winter Train Station as they are going to be completely ignored.

I would change my vote after seeing the rear to a discount of at least 20% unless there is a cost effective way to change it to be desireable

I have to admit the longer this goes on the easier it will be to get later on, at the end of the day it is just another millennium falcon, the minifigs are disappointing then there is there rear and not having mentioned any day 1 promos is really lame. I was willing to book a hotel and travel to london to pick it up and make a few days of it, see harry potter studios etc with the kids, but I would have liked to have booked it by now. I spoke to the london store about promos and she said keep an eye on facebook.. what good is that.

I still have red 5, tie, slave 1, snowspeeder and many other non starwars sets lined up to build without adding this.

So I think like others I will wait until discounts unless they offer a 1 off promo, i was hoping for the slug set, we will see. I have a lego store 50 mins away so that is always a go to if a promo is mentioned last minute.

Could they be sleeper sets with the arse-less MF and Saturn V stealing the limelight?

Part of 10179's value, IMO, was the idea that TLG was unlikely to ever make something like that again. People made the decision to shell out for a collectible and conversation piece (There's a winery/brewery near me that has the MF and SSD displayed in the tasting room. Never fails to get comments).  Now that people know that TLG can or will redo sets, it will be interesting to see the value of 75192 in 5 to 7 years when the rumors begin again.  If an AFOL misses out on it this time (even assuming that the window closes), will they be willing to be that person who bought it for $5000 in 2022 when they might get another chance for the 50th anniversary? I'm still planning on trying to get at least one to hold long-term, but I don't expect a repeat of 10179's performance.

Even if this set is not remade, I agree with you that I too doubt it'll have the same investment ride 10179 had.  Primary reason is articles like the one posted in this thread above (http://www.mirror.co.uk/money/its-ultimate-lego-star-wars-11116390).  The first time around, it was the largest "toy" ever sold by LEGO.  And as you said, it was doubtful LEGO would ever do something so crazy again.  However, now LEGO is purposely producing "adult collectors" sets AND it's licensed through Disney.  Meaning?  It'll be so over produced that EVERYONE will have one (or more) by the end because they're hoping to cash in big.  When things are communicated as the "latest possible huge investment," it rarely turns out to be that way.

This is not based upon my knowledge of LEGO, it's just true in investing.  The best investments are the ones that people shy away from so it's not over produced, but in the long run everyone decides they need it.

It might be an interesting topic of which UCS Star Wars sets the community thinks will never be remade.  B-Wing and Slave 1 come to my mind as there are only slight improvements that could be made to either set, unless you completely change the scale of Slave 1.  But based upon the latest sets, it seems LEGO really wants them to be play sets for minifigures.

Of all the OT SW fighters, only one has never been made in UCS form - the A-Wing. I know there are A-Wings in SW VIII, perhaps in the next year we'll see a set.

On a side note; I've got a gut feeling one group of fighters we will not be seeing any remakes of are the TIE fighters.  The wings are so monotonous to build, they're just not fun.  How funny would that be if the current TIE, which is not hugely popular, becomes the next MF investment story?

I don't understand all this hate for the Falcon's rear end. It's no worse than on 10179, and arguably the blue tubes are a better representation of the actual engines from the movies.

I guess you would have to build the 10179 to really appreciate the difference between the two.

my experience as far as building is about a 300 piece difference...the 75192 is basically 6 tubes and 12 technic pins.

the best part of the 19179 300 piece engine Build is its Display Power with light refraction giving it that "bling" effect with the high quality transclear 1x2's ...the tubes look pretty dull no mater how how you light it for display...I guess it's just preference but like I said in my original post ...it just seems like a lazy cut cornered solution to use the tubes.

Id rather get a more detailed engine build like this...not a dumbed down short cut with 6 tubes...but hey? That's me...

Every set is different.  If it goes on sale quickly, it's a dog.

Short production run is the key.  There will be another UCS Falcon in 10 years, so plan accordingly.

Will there be a definitive number produced?  In other words, have the suits at Lego already decided how many sets they are going to make, or will they leave it open ended based on initial sales?  This is all very interesting to me.  Nearly every other product that has limited production or at least no plans for unlimited production has a set number planned for production, or number of days.

I just don't know how forthcoming Lego is going to be about this number.....very interesting.

Anyone have any thoughts on how many sets the "average store" is going to get in?  I've never lined up or spent the night for a set.  Do stores usually let the public know how many they got in, let's say the night before?

Thank you!

Devil's advocate. Are we all willing to pay the extra $100/$200 for a well done rear end, extra pages to a manual, additional bricks etc etc!? Lol. Where does it end!? We'd be arguing the flat bottom and lack of greebling. So now it's a $1000 set lol

Anymore details about the black MF VIP card? Something about access to deals through 2018?

https://www.thebrickfan.com/lego-star-wars-ucs-millennium-falcon-75192-limited-edition-black-vip-card/

Quote

Update: I’ve been told that it will indeed be available here in the US. It is available to the first 20,000 customers who purchase the UCS Millennium Falcon and will be mailed to you at a later date. The benefits of the black VIP card will include special LEGO Star Wars promotions in 2018 for cardholders only.

For me they should have changed the design of that rear section completely with the modern building techniques available.

This guy nailed the rear..... giggity giggity

So basically the 75192 uses a plus 20 piece count

the 10179 uses 324 piece engine build.....

but marshals rear engine design is absolutely incredible...what would you say?....over 1000 pieces?(rear engine only)Totally for that build?

is it worth it?

I say...Oooooo yeah!!!??totally nailed!

Ive decided....I'm building that beast-lol

Just got off the phone with my local Lego store (Canada). The store manager said that the black MF cards will be mailed directly to those who purchase the MF between 14 Sept and 31 Dec. The cards will be mailed direct to the customer, even if an in-store purchase. And this is for new or existing VIP members. He had no details about potential promos linked to the card or whether or not they are limited edition.

That is going to take some effort to get it looking right. The MB MOC is a great job, take that with the 75192 cockpit and grebling and i think that would be the best result.

I'll post a pic and save it in my profile at completion...
