I don't know if I was dreaming or what but I could have sworn I saw a post where someone preordered a UCS falcon for a May the 4th celebration this year. I searched everywhere (here, shopathome) and came up with nothing though.

Gotcha! ;-)

Funny if they DID actually release one.  If they hate "investors" that much, I wouldn't put it past them.

It wouldn't surprise in the least if they did release a new one especially next year before the release of EP. VII.

But the way Lego has been making stuff, they won't rerelease it exactly as the old on.  I'm also afraid that it would be significantly smaller in scale and price range.  I doubt we will ever see a 5000+ piece and $500+ set for a very long time.

I think its time to sell them anyway - get $3000 and don't take a chance.

I think if you have one of these you are being foolish by not selling it (unless you want to build it).  The odds of it increasing at a greater rate then other sets retiring soon are extremely slim.  Lego will, yes WILL, remake this set at some point.  It will be around $500 again, as the market for Lego sets has increased and will continue too for the foreseeable future.  This will dramatically decrease the value of the current one.  I honestly believe that the Millennium Falcon has become like the Charizard card back in the pokemon days, everyone wants one, but it is extremely scarce.

While we 'may' see another $500 set again, (I have my doubts because they haven't hit it since then,) I HIGHLY doubt it will dramatically drop the price of the current one. The only way I think it will make a decent enough 'dip' is if every single reseller all listed them at the same time and there were hundreds/thousands that just flooded the market.

I don't think it's going to crash and burn like that.

I agree. I predict that the price will drop a small amount, but not a huge dramatic drop. I can see the price dropping by $300 to $500 easy if they remake the set, but not much more after that.

Then if the prices of the old one drop significantly, I will buy as much old ones as I can. The old one will still remain scarse. The new one will not be. Cause everyone will jump on those as flies on .... and expecting the same growth as the first one. I believe a new one will not be better than the old one. Lego will not produce sets in that fashion anymore.

I have to agree. A remake would be significantly less robust that 10179. That set will forever remain the Grail, imho.

I'm with you - if there is a nice dip right after the if/when release of another UCS Falcon, it might drop low enough for me to scoop a couple up.

Since the Winter Toy Shop remade this year, the biggest take away is to have a plan out. Once it reaches your desire price; SELL! Don't hold a bunch of a set forever.

But it´s part of the business we are in and it has always been like that. There are so few 10179´s still around unboxed that it is unlikely to have a huge effect on their value.
