Rumour - UCS Imperial Star Destroyer re-make

The imperial star destroyer has been rumoured since the start of 2017 to be next in line for the ucs remake treatment by lego.  We've had the snowspeeder, Death Star and now alomist upon us (at the time of writing)  the falcon.  Given the box art on today's leak which shows an ISD shadow I'm the foreground a la the millennium falcon was in the Death Star remake box art, this would be a tell tale sign that We should expect an ISD potentially For next May the Fourth (coinciding with Han Solo film), hence starting this thread today.

What one would expect is:

1) Similar dimensions to existing 10030

2) Significantly increased piece count, which would account for a lot more detail (greebling over drive in the same vein as Rashinskolv's Imperial Star Destroyer MOC).

3) A far more sturdier structure which doesn't fall apart when you look at it, which would remove the need for the magnets system

4) Some minifigures, since this is an easy way to boost price

5)  Price would be circa £500

And it will come with a more detailed, to scale, Tantive IV to pull into the docking bay of the Star Destoyer. Also needs a to scale Millennium Falcon to dock on blind spot on the conning tower of the Star Destroyer.

That way you can make it the Devastator or the Avenger

Face it, they´re going to do them all again and again and again as the bricks evolve and builds become more detailed.

The only unknowns are the gap between them and the release order. At AT, Tantive, Cloud City, ISD, SSD, Jedi Stafighter and then an X Wing. Hopefully they will do some stuff based on the new movies too.

Issue with the new movies especially Rogue one is that there are already great MOCs out there that Lego would struggle to surpass. We have the Zeta class Transporter (i.e Rogue One) and the U-Wing which are works of art.

Like Lego have any compunction appropriating fans´ designs.

The imperial star destroyer ........... potentially For next May the Fourth (coinciding with Han Solo film),

At first I thought, YES that even makes sense in that the Star Destroyer would be featured in the Han Solo movie, as it is mentioned as backstory to Han's past In Episode 4. When we first meet him, he's bragging about outrunning Imperial Ships, "Not the local bulk cruisers mind you, I'm talking about the Big Corellian Ships". Corellia of course being where he's FROM.

I always assumed he meant a bigger faster version of the ISD, not the local crappy ISDs. I did a quick google on this topic (sadly, the quote was off the top of my head, and mostly accurate #nerdalert) and it seems there's actually some debate on what Han was talking about;

http://boards.theforce.net/threads/what-are-the-big-corellian-ships.22093125/page-2

Some may know that the Rebel Blockade Runner is actually labeled a CORRELLIAN Blockade Runner, and by definition, must be fast. So SOME postulate he's saying he has outrun Blockade Runners before, as the perception is, Outrunning an ISD isn't that hard as they're large, bulky, and likely slow to accelerate. (Which would be true even without air friction in space due to their Mass, even though SW often ignores how ships fly in space, etc)

Now even though an ISD appears slow and bulky, and a Blockade Runner must be fast, we remember the first time we saw them, the ISD CAUGHT a Blockade Runner from behind. Maybe there's extenuating circumstances, gravity well traps, or just Vader being a baddass and force wielding. So maybe that means the ISD IS in fact faster than a Blockade Runner. Who knows?

So apparently the ISD was built at a shipyard called KUAT, as was the SSD. So if that's the case, he wasn't talking about the ISD when he said the "big Correllian ships".

HOWEVER, a Ford Escort is still a Ford Escort even if its' manufactured in Mexico, so perhaps they STARTED at KUAT, but eventually were made all over the galaxy including Correllia.

OR maybe ISD's that hang out near Correllia were especially well pimped out by the Correllian folks so as to be known as faster than the typical ISD, like a custom souped up Shelby Mustang?

Or maybe I've thought about this way too much.

Enjoy the rest of your day. #CrawlsBackUnderRock

I'm still waiting on a large UCS-scale set of the Petranaki Arena/Battle of Geonosis from Episode 2. I don't get it why one's not been made yet . So much playability and display value. And we keep getting remakes and skipping one of the biggest scenes from the prequel trilogy. And nobody even talks about it as a set. Something similar to this would work.

Prequel's  do not seem to be fairly treated in regards to UCS shame as I would love to see a UCS MTT.

I'm super stoked Lego is remaking these sets. Of course, I don't personally have any investment in the original versions. I would also love to see some variety. Right now the problem is shelf time. UCS sets sit on the store shelves for years. Or should I say, big SW sets sit on the shelf for years. This keeps them from making others.

Outside of the glaring issues with the frame and magnets used, it will take a hell of a ship to outdo 10030.  I love mine and it's prominently displayed.

The 10030 as of now only has its size going for it. Its looks and building techniques are very dated, even a mediocre design will easily outdo it.

In any case, an ISD remake is a quite obvious choice, and it also has lots of space for a decent interior. It could make a very nice large set.

Unfamiliar with the magnets system, anyone care to explain?

Lego used magnets attached to the technic frame to attach the hull of the ship.  The pieces are generally too heavy for the magnets and come un-attached very easily.  I can see why they did this because of their flexibility the magnets allow you the angles needed to create that signature shape of the ISD.  With all the new ball joint pieces that Lego has now I don't think it will be an issue with any remake.

You're assuming a lot out of Lego for them to beat "mediocre" when it comes to Star Wars designs nowadays.  :)   I agree on the inside of the ship, it's extremely dated and way undersized for the weight of the ship.  As  you said, there is also ample room for an interior if they went that route as well.  But now you're looking at another $400-500 ship.

The outside of the ship looks fabulous as is.  They will probably just get to that same point in a different way by using new techniques and new pieces.  I mean, it's a grey triangle, how much improvement could there be?

If they really push the boat out which means replacing magnet system, including an interior and also including a lot more detail, this could be a huge upgrade to a classic which is looking quite dated based on modern techniques. Something similar to rashkolnikov's recently released 15,000 piece MOC of the ISD aggressor. 2397066ed66c42ac6ae695f353179b74.jpg
