Has anyone seen this before?

Just curious to see if anyone has come across something like this. I picked it up at San Diego Comic-Con a couple of years ago. I was fortunate enough to have it authenticated by a LEGO designer that was at the show. He said that it most likely was produced for a private function. It definitely is not an employee give away. He said that they do not go through the expense of printing colored packaging.

 

Curious to know if anyone else has a similar item or has any information regarding this little fella.

Yes. This was a gift with purchase at Toys R Us. They were priced at $6.99 each (I think) for individual purchase.

There was a similar one for Nexo Knights as well (5004390), except that was a gift with purchase at LEGO.
