Did you buy yours at amazon? if not your humble brag seems a bit over anxious?

Getting Walmart clearance is very different than the discounts talk about on here for the U.K. people.

So long as the buyer pays less than RRP, I don´t really see how it matters what name is given to the discount or which shop offers it.

It´s probably better  if it is never reduced across the country online then you have less horde with copies and you can undercut if need be. The brits are now having everyone plunder Amazon UK and the horde just gets bigger and we know what that does to post EOL prices with the Tumbler.

DB has been on clearance here in many places but not made it to Amazon either, fortunately.

Only responded to the part where OP mentioned he had never seen this set on discount ever in the US. Well, it was, maybe not a full force discount available to anyone with two thumbs and a computer, but available to more than a single buyer for sure... And then I'm still ignoring the fact that this set is/was available at KMart, and therefore could be picked up for significantly below RRP to anyone with a SYW account and the patience to play a few Sweeps, plus a $10 off $100 or $20 off $150 coupon...

Couldn't agree more! I wouldn't mind paying what you all are paying for personal build though if I could just go on and buy it easily instead of searching high and wide for it.

I never said I have never seen it on discount or ever. I understand there are many ways to get discounts on sets. I just haven't been lucky enough to get anything worth it.

I was just meaning I wouldn't mind going on Amazon, having a decent discount and having it show up on my doorstep 2 days later for a personal build.

Phil, you clearly missed the point. Go back and read his post before you excitedly posted about your discounted sets.  He never said usa, he said amazon.  Sure there is Walmart, BAM, B&N, Meijer, clearance and Kmart tricks (RIP TRU GC & Points) .  He said amazon, that was the whole point. Also to assume everyone has these stores accessible or even the means or time to get to point A would be naive. The OP simply stated DB set has not been offered below RRP on Amazon. This could be a tell tale of its solid sales IMO.  Not quite sure how this point is being missed.

Alright alright. His last sentence can be read differently depending on whether you think it was stated within the context of the previous sentence or as a separate statement. I obviously took it as a generic statement about the US market, where it was intended (I assume) as an Amazon specific statement. Mea culpa.

In the States, this set hasn't budged from RRP on Amazon.

Regardless of context, I feel this sentence speaks for itself.  No dancing around it.

I guess I should have used that semicolon like my English teachers taught me. Congrats on that $79 by the way!

US Amazon sales rank for construction toys is 2000-3000 range at full RRP. That´s like in Europe but it goes up to 500 or so when we get 20% off and becomes a best seller top ten rank when it goes to 30% off on Amazon UK.

Amazon usually reduce things to price match other online offers, when they have excess stock on slow items, for flash promos and due to pricing errors - in that order of probability.

I expect the US will get deep discounts when the summer clearances start and just before EOL. Some lucky folk will get them in the post Xmas clearance for very little and already retired.

@Jeff Mack So I posted a trade ad for 70618 on the "Trading / Want Ads / For Sale thread".  It's been waiting for approval since yesterday.  How long does that usually take before it gets posted?  Instruction state that ads should be posted on the Promotions section, but the link leads to an area that's offline.  Please help?

I just approved it. Must have slipped through the cracks.

£74.99 again at Amazon UK, 2 limit.

Got one only, decided last night that whilst I'm sure they'll be available at further discounts and with no limits, I'd rather have some in case I miss out.

Exactly the same reasoning for me as well.

I buy whatever set of this one I can get under 100 euro's as I feel very strongly about it. Have the feeling it will just simply vanish from all shops over time.

I have a single one aside. I got it as a three for two, sold the other two, and it stands me in very little. I almost brought a couple more a couple of days ago but have now had a rethink..

I won't be buying another one yet, if at all, purely because of this forum.. if this hoarding is consistent until retirement, there are going to be some unhappy people for sure in two years time having had all that space taken up. If it tails off, it might be awesome. At this time, as many have suggested is the way forward, I have now decided to zag.

For personal build however, or if I get the strong urge to build that super DB MOC, there is no better value!

The main thing that makes me doubt the set is that I've seen 3 on Facebook Market Place on sale for £80 ever since Christmas and none have shifted. Worst case scenario I end up with a large Galleon and a lot of dodgy looking  power rangers to play with.

Yes, I think some people are over-estimating future demand and will be disappointed. Unless they are happy pocketing 5 pounds after fees or want to part out.

I think Ninjago hasn't really caught on in the mainstream yet and I don't think the film has helped matters.

I've started watching the cartoons and found them much more enjoyable and if kids start watching these on Netflix then I think the Ninjago sets will have a broader appeal. I think the AFOL market for these will still be limited but that galleon may change all that. :)

I think we need to watch how ToA and Village perform post EOL to gauge demand for large sets from kiddies´ themes. BTW who are Amazon price matching?

Argos have a 10% off promo on eBay.
