eventually yes, see my post on previous page. had to conference in TRU and Synchrony. theoretically (as it was explained over the phone) PM (TRU) and TRUTH (Synchrony) should both work per their terms and conditions. however, POS will not automatically allow it because as soon as a cashier pushes the pricematch "magic" button, all the other discounts are out the window.

So....... for the future how can we support the argument (prove) that the PM TRU & TRUTH can be applied together? I don't often find myself in a position to need to do both, but it would be nice to have that knowledge for future reference.

i was told to call synchrony if it doesnt apply next time so they can adjust the total at the register. i guess to prove the point bring the terms and conditions of each printed and in-hand and let them read it for themselves.

How long until that loophole gets closed?

dunno, but if there, why not use it? considering its two separate companies providing the discounts i dont see it as a loophole. combining coupons/discounts/clearance with truth never seemed to be an issue, so why not price match?

nowhere does it state it cannot be combined with coupons/discounts/clearance/pricematch

It doesn't. They just confirmed for me on the phone that they should know & if they don't apply the discount that they (the CC company is giving) to call them from in the store.

My understanding was that the price match policy clearly states that the price match is the final discount and cannot be the start of a discount stack.  Therefore it doesn't matter whether the Toys R Us Thursday discount says it cannot be part of a price match. The price match policy is what eliminates the stack

In terms of price matching the $104 FredMeyer.com price in store at TRU, has anyone else been a success? Just curious as my closest store is about a 40 minute drive.

Keep in mind I live in Georgia so there isn't a FM for about a bazillion miles of my location. I've read the TRU website. I see where price matching of FM.com is allowed in one section.

Another section states that the price match will include the website price+any applicable shipping charges, tax, etc. To me this suggests that the item has to be either shipped or available for in store pickup. For many of us, this would not apply. Thoughts?

Competitor shipping charges will be calculated and factored in the cost of online prices.

I have absolutely had success in store. I've been buying these for a week straight. No issues at all. But again, FredMeyer is a local store in the NW so it's much easier for me to get this done.

Very YMMV based on what you outlined above.

The point of a price match is not to obtain an item at a cheaper price . Retailers allow it so that one doesn't have to go to the competition and they also get to keep their customers happy and satisfied .

That's my take as well. In my case since I can't physically go to FM and they won't ship the item to my house, they aren't exactly a competitor to TRU. I've done three prices matches in my whole life, all at Target, so I admittedly don't have a lot of experience here.

Looking at a simple definition of loophole, "an ambiguity or inadequacy in the law or a set of rules."  I'm not implying that a loophole is bad or evil.  Just that it's ambiguous enough that it's not clear.   As long as it's not breaking any specific rule, it's definitely in play.

However....

Here's the policy from TRU's website:

Quote

Prices are matched after deducting any Toys"R"Us and/or Babies"R"Us coupon savings and other offers from our price.

The way I read that, you can get your 10% off their price.  And if it's still higher than a competitor, they will match the competitor.  But I don't read it that they will match the price then offer additional discounts.  To me, the 10% off with the CC is part of the "other offers from our price."

I'm an outsider here ... don't have a TRU CC. But here's what I see:

If this was TRU doing a Price Match, and then using an independent Credit Card with a cashback or points option, I think everyone would be clear that all is fair and square. TRU does not know about your CC "savings" and does the PM, and you get the additional benefits from your CC provider.

On the other hand, if it was TRU doing a Price Match, and then trying to use a 10% off coupon, everybody also agrees that the T&Cs on Price Match indicate that this is NOT allowed.

The problem is that the 10% rewards is an offer coming from the TRU CC, which officially is provided by another entity, but for some reason needs to be administered by the retailer, and does not come back as a credit on the CC statement. This is where it gets confusing. It would be much clearer if the CC provider just gave you a credit at the end of the month of 10% of all your purchases made at TRU/BRU. It sounds like the CC provider has confirmed that this offer stands even after PM, as per a previous post.
