I did a price match to Target last week. The 10% didn't come off, so I went to CS and the manager agreed that it should definitely come off and they price adjusted accordingly.

Man TRU just sucks, it's so YMMV. I went into the one closest to me and they said that once they match a price, NO OTHER DISCOUNTS apply...I mean why even shop there? I guess if you have a good manager but if not....only the occasional clearance or big sale brings me in....well the Nexo Knight build did too ;)

Store policy is if a price match is done, no further discounts are given.  It's actually programmed that way in their POS system, so a manager is required to do an over-ride.  If they do a price adjust, it's the same as if they created a new tag for the shelf and all coupons will work as if the cashier didn't touch the price.

I was told the same thing by a manager that she would rather do a one time price match for me then to adjust the price of the item. By price matching she can hope that the next person doesn't find the cheaper price and they continue to reap the profits. If she were to adjust the price she would be conceding a loss on the item because then all coupons would work on that lower price.

Tell me about it.  I just get a price match, earn Rewards dollars, and pay with discounted gift cards that are readily available at higher discount than one finds for LEGO, Target, Amazon, or Wal-Mart.  But they don't carry my bags to the car for me.  Jerks.

What stores am I missing that offer price match, will apply other discounts, and regularly have other discounts that apply towards your LEGO purchase?  The only one I can think of is Target, but their "other discounts" that apply to LEGO are a once-in-a-blue-moon event.

Sounds about right on the sarcasm detector...but it's not out of the realm of possibility to expect a store to price match and keep their once weekly discount upheld. That's really not that far of a stretch. Especially a store who's prices are so far out of whack they lose business b/c of it. So while I appreciate your response, I don't really feel I was out of line mentioning that TRU sucks based on what I feel is bad policy. But don't take it from me, I only spent years couponing back while I was in my dark ages, so I don't really know what I am talking about. :)

Since nobody's asked my opinion, I'll go ahead & give it. I think the 10% Thursday should apply because I'm using their CC. Just being in the store (which I would never do otherwise though) may not be enough incentive for them since they don't just offer the additional 10% for just being there. .02¢...

Most of us go on Thursdays only to get the 10% off, 8% back (rewards) and add a coupon to stack (when there are some) or tack it on to sale items.

When there's no coupons or sale items just using the 10% isn't as much of an incentive to go. In terms of price matching unless the item you are price matching is lower than say 5% off rrp you're better off just accepting TRU's inflated (by 6%) price and applying TRUTH.

The only way I could see TRU changing their pm policy and use the 10% off is if it only applied to rrp items and not discounted items.

I'll stow the sarcasm for now.  I am asking what is your basis for expecting a store to apply both price match and allow for their additional discounts to apply as a corporate policy and not a YMMV workaround?  In today's present LEGO retail world, the examples are extremely limited.  The only one that comes to mind that might meet this definition is the rare (2-4 times/year?) Target promotional polybag or minifig cube giveaway with LEGO purchase.

Therefore it is out of line to single out a particular retailer as being terrible based upon this specific criteria since it is based upon wishful thinking that there are better alternatives.

What's this 6% you speak of?

White House 21006 TRU $59.99 RRP $49.99
Volkswagon T1 Camper Van 10220 TRU $144.89 RRP $119.99

My basis for expecting a store to price match AND keep their discount is simply how a company stays competitive. If they want to get the sale they have to offer an incentive. The incentive obviously isn't their RRP or TRURRP, it's the fact they should match the price and then allow their weekly discount to still apply, if they don't people go elsewhere. That's it. I think you would agree that shopping at TRU isn't a great idea normally. So why shop somewhere? Well quality draws people to buy from me in my profession, that's one reason. They have terrible CS and their quality is the same on products bought there or other places. It's the poor quality CS and their high prices that make people not want to buy from them. So, from a corporate perspective I would say, if I can sell more material for less margin but still gross more profit then that's what I should do. They can't do that if they only price match and not offer the discount as well b/c then they are losing people who can go elsewhere. Why go to TRU for just a PM unless you have nothing near you and no internet? I would love to continue the debate but big box store purchasing is extremely competitive, their policies are fluid and their staff is uncaring and uneducated to their own policies. That's why YMMV is so applicable b/c they can't even train their staff to their own policies. In any event, I stick by my statement about TRU and it's time for me to head back to work, you're making my quality suffer ;):)

Not to beat a dead horse, but TRU and it's policies can be beneficial to buyers. I'm not talking about everyday purchases that are over RRP (their prices generally suck). But there are good deals to be had for sure, even while still staying in the confines of their policies. Here is an example. Fred Meyer (a NW retailer) has a Millenium Falcon for $104. It's an online ad, you can't order it for delivery. TRU will price match these at $104. I bought on a Thursday, but the 10% did not apply since it's a price match. But I did get triple rewards on a lego purchase (around $12 or so). Counting rewards points, this kicks it down around $92. They didn't have any promos at the time, but if they did, that would be another bonus.

This is completely playing within the rules and policies of TRU, and I feel that $92 (if we are counting reward dollars) is a great buy in for this set. Even if I talked Target or somewhere else to price match, I wouldn't get reward dollars or a promo (if there were one at TRU)
