TRUTH Tactics : and now the end is here

I got Q about raise, what happend with tru gift cards, all gone...used to be tones but not anymore.

I think there are three contributors...

1. Decreased supply.  I'm assuming a large supply comes from gifts, store return credit, etc.  So possibly a glut in January that slowly tapers throughout the year.  (I'd be interested if someone who has been purchasing Raise GC for multiple years could weigh in on this).

2. Lower standards.  With the prolonged TRU coupons (July/Aug/Sep/Oct) I have gone through all inventory of TRU gift cards purchased at 15%+ from eBay.  Getting more than 15% against the bots at Raise is very difficult.  Couple the demand for deals with the decreased supply, and  I've been settling for a lower discount percent than my usual target.

3. FAO fan splatter.  I'm awaiting a refund of a $180 "TRU" gift card I purchased from Raise that turned out to be an FAO gift card that disappeared when FAO went under.  I have no idea of the website business volume or turnover, but they have to be dealing with thousands if not tens of thousands of dollars in refunds on this.  Raise could just be clamping down on TRU gift cards until this storm is over.

Every promo set that my TRU has seems to go "out of stock" when the prices are hot on eBay then come back in stock once prices have died down. When they were giving out Rocket Raccoon, I was told they had none, but then a manager came over and said he happened to find one left in the back. Same with the bricktober sets and most recent poly bag promo. Yet last week when I was there I still saw bricktober sets and Raccoons. It's almost like the employees are keeping them for themselves.

Last year you could get the Bricktober set with a $74.99 item before discounts.  Just scan the items first and the set comes up as free.  Then add your coupons.  I did this dozens of times.  With 25% off and TRUTH and selling the set for $20+, I was getting Batcaves at a cost of about $30.

YMMV... just got back from my TRU and they said "No".  I had an SW Advent Calendar and 7 new Mixels to get my total to $78.  Tried the 20% off coupon, plus $5 off... she tried 2 times, the coupons worked, but the (scanned) Bricktober set would not clear as "free"... my total was about $90 with tax.  She wasn't sure, but could only guess that the total had to be $75 after coupons.  I had to walk away... told them I'd be back tomorrow  :)

We have known this for some time, more specifically in your case the total should be $75 after coupons AND before tax

Everyone try $75 before coupons. Might be YMMV. The computers at my stores allow it. No override or anything fancy. Just make sure the bricktober comes up as $0 before scanning coupons.

Are you sure the price of bricktober set is $0 on the receipt ? IIRC their POS will not allow you to subtract bricktober set before applying coupon
