WH Smiths also jacks up prices well above RRP. Since it's recommended and not mandatory, it's legal. People shouldn't be stupid enough to buy at those prices. Amazon resellers lying about RRP when inflated is illegal - I think.

These retailers are the resellers that LEGO should target, not us!

Littlewoods jack up prices as they don't charge interest. They've always been expensive.

Look at Hamleys at Heathrow where the prices are even higher than Regent Street! Also the boxes are "Argosesque". Duty Free... my arse!

Then again, we fleece buyers post EOL ;-)

517Oq1LD%2BhL._SX425_.jpg £40 on Amazon UK... this is really tempting to me. I don't own any Speed Champions and I'm considering whether to jump in and buy them all or let them all go.

lg76057g__64090.1463851650.1280.1280.jpg £66.80 already at Jadlamracingmodels  - this seems like a fantastic price?? Not quite as good as with the Argos 3-4-2 but I don't bother purchasing from Argos anymore

lego-marvel-super-heroes-76032-the-aveng £42.99 @ Argos... nice set at a nice price. Shame about the retailer.

All pretty good prices (although amazon have already put their price back up to £55 for 75876).  Either way, if you thinking investment the first two sets are both pretty new and I'm sure they will be discounted further down the line, which allows you to put capital in to other sets at present.  As for the Argos one, leave unless you can collect from store !!!

Toys R Us Germany has 15% off Lego today.
For example:

42056 Porsche GTIII RS: 299.99 RRP - 15% = 254,99
Or
42038 Artic Truck: 79.99 is already discounted + 15% off = 50.98 incl. shipping

Edit: The discount should be applied automatically during the checkout.. but the site doesn't add the discount atm.. As I tried it worked. Perhaps we'll have to wait a bit

Same on Toys R Us Netherlands. Minimum buy is €30 worth of LEGO. Though there aren't many interesting sets available at the Dutch TRU site. Slave 1 and UCS TIE Fighter are probably the most interesting sets.

Another one for those that can't wait:

42005-Bucket Wheel Excavator at Galeria Kaufhof already marked down to 209.99 and with the CouponCode AFFGKEM0716 you'll save another 11% off. Don't forget Payback or Qipu (-8% GaleriaKaufhof).
So overall: 42005: 229.99 down to 209.99 - 11%= 186.89 (-8% Qipu: -12,56) =  174,33

I dont understand how you can buy sets at 15% discount and call that a good deal.

Even for exclusives.

UK market is very different to US when it comes to exclusives.

In US they are available in multiple places including amazon / TRU and it seems normal to buy exclusives at 30% off.

In UK only places that sell exclusives are Lego / TRU / Smyths. Only chance to buy at discount is Smyths 20% sale or double VIP. TRU do not put exclusives on sale so you have to use giftcards to get discount ot special promotions which are very rare.

I personally stay away from exclusives as I find it much easier to sell smaller sets, I need to sell more of them to make same amount compared to an exclusive however it is very easy to pickup small sets at discount, plus easier to store / ship.

Collected my Tesco orders & they've honoured the erroneous points haul.

LOL - same here. I got the 1500 points per £60 along with 5% Quidco which has already tracked so each set works out at well under half price for me ;-)

This was by far a much better deal than Argos and all boxes were pristine. Mods... Don't worry, I use the affiliate links occasionally ;-)

As stated above, different countries have different conditions, so it's not like the condition you're working under in your country is one-on-one applicable to the condition I or someone else from yet another country has to work under.

The Netherlands simply does not have a large storey like Galeria Kaufhof in Germany, which now and then has quite good offers. On top of the already lower prices (in general) than those we have here in The Netherlands. Then there are people in Spain who juggle with coupons to get really good discounts. Another thing that is lacking here. There are no discount coupons given here and in the rare instances that a folder has a cut-out coupon for a meagre 10% discount, the small print always states that discounts do not stack, and are not applicable to already discounted items.

So, while you may scoff at a 'mere' 15% discount on an Exclusive, in other countries that could sometimes be the best discount on that set throughout its 2-3-4 year availability.

And after all, does it really matter that much if you sell a MISB 10240 Red Five X-Wing a few years down the road for €400 whether you bought it for €230 (Dutch retail price) or for €180? Yes, you make a little bit more profit if you got it for €180, but it's not a whole world of difference. And if you had limited yourself to not buy it for more than €150, you'd have lost a nice opportunity...

First of all, I'm not scoffing at 15%. It's just a personal view on things: -15% is not enough.

A. I would never invest at 15% discount, because my competition is getting the product at -20% or better. You all should know they are.

B. For my business to be strong, I need to be able to buy cheapest so I can sell cheapest and get the volumes (region: Europe Core)

C. In current context, the risks of sitting on slow inventory are huge. Having a low buy-in at least lets you sell for break-even cashflow when you'd like.

This said, the opportunities are rare. That's why my advice is: WAIT until the deal comes. (UK had some deals when the sterling/euro collapsed)

And -15% is not a deal. Better to look harder. There's no rush to buy Lego. Time is on your side (Retirement of good sets get delayed all the time!!)

I can't really tell you how I 'systematically' source my stuff. It's about the hunt. And a good hunter knows he has to be patient to get rewarded. Now is not the season. It will come later during the year... throw the small fish back into the sea and wait for better...

(not that I'm fond of hunting - quite the contrary)

Take care and good luck.

I'm sorry, but who is exactly is your competition? Most small players do not have access to LEGO wholesale.

-15% is not bad for some exclusives.

Let's look at an example. Let's say you got a Red Five X-Wing at -15% a year ago. RRP was 200€ so that's 170€. The current avarage bricklink price for this set is 310€ in Europe. Let's say you can get about 300€ and there's Paypal and bricklink fee of about 7% total. You'd still have more than 100€ profit per set.

Now I'm not saying every set is like that, but I can clearly see how people think -15% on the Slave 1 or Tie is a good deal.

Sure you can get lucky and find an exclusive at -20% sometimes, but anyone in France, Belgium or the Netherlands will have a hard time finding that deal. Even then, RRP is generally higher here. For example RRP for the UCS Tie is 220€ over here. Even if you manage to find -20% locally, the price is still higher than -15% at German RRP.

You also did not take into account order limits. Let's say you find that 20% deal. Do you think they are just going to let you buy 5 Slave 1's?

You make good and valid points. I know you're in Germany and your competition there is different from what I have to deal with here. :)  And you do have a point. 15% discount isn't that good, even on Exclusives that are rarely sold at discount here. I do remember all too well when I, still wet behind the ears as a new Brickpicker, bought a Slave 1 at 10% and thought that was a good deal. And then months later I could buy it with 20% discount. :P

Also, you're obviously doing this more professionally ("for my business to be strong...") than I am. For me, the main reason to buy and sell LEGO was and still is to get a better return on my savings than simply leaving it to rot on a 0.5% interest savings-account at the bank. And I'm doing that using a product I love and have a connection with, which helps me to pick and choose sets that will be wanted by the masses. My risks are very low because I'm not speculating with borrowed money, or using this LEGO investment as a way to (partially) support the household income. It's purely a hobby for me.

Hunting for a great deal can be both frustrating and deeply satisfying. Scoring a great deal gives a rush. Though missing out on such a deal because you were busy elsewhere or had a bad timing can be similarly frustrating. Right now is a low season, especially for selling LEGO. I'm already looking forward to the last several months of the year when the building up to the Christmas craze hits the markets! :D

I' m just saying 15% is not enough for me. Those fire brigades in my attick were boight at 110 pp. My slave 1 at -40%.

Anyways. Some interesting snippet fresh from the store:

'We were provided with a new batch of disney minifigure: restocked!'

i guess they aren't going away yet...

You have nailed it.

Thanks for this post.

I'm just saying to the new kids on the block: spend it carefully.

And from experience: business is slow, so take precautions so you can get out at low prices if wanted.

Take care.

I don't think the season is really that slow right now (at least not for me) and I really can't wait to see how the christmas time is really going to be this year. Always keep in mind that a lot of new investors have come into the market (basically ever Harry, **** and Tom + their grandmas) and they are all waiting for the x-mas period to sell their stuff....I think last years christmas sales were already lower compared to 2014...
