I'd rather buy 70917 at half rrp and make a 40% return (£30 profit on an £70 outlay) quickly then buy Saturn V at RRP and have to hold it for a year to make something similar. In that year of waiting you could churn that investment multiple times. just like without nexo. Nearly everyone branded the theme a turd. But when TRU had them at half price one of our BP friends in the UK was flipping those on eBay for RRP and making £40 - £50 profit per set. Let's put it like this a lot depends on how long this set gets pumped out at 50 percent off .

Don't worry, competition will be rife.

I'm not sure you can always trust those BiN prices as often there are a few outliers that skew the data and, when you add in ebay and PayPal fees, the effort of packing and posting, and then potential for returns or complaints it can very quickly become a pain in the arse. Personally, I love the minifigs in these Batman sets and have bought a few for myself for that reason. However, the models themselves don't inspire. I actually prefer a lot of the Ninjago sets aesthetically. But, at this point, it's all just opinions. I'll be watching with interest, that's for sure.

If you can’t make money buying 8 batman figs and 1456 parts at £70 you’re really in the wrong game. Are there better areas in put your capital, well that’s a different question and the answer is probably, yes. But I wouldn’t pay any attention to the comments here anymore, if i were you, only the negative opinions remain. Those of of us that see the upside and opportunities, don't bother anymore.
andyposterfan
Well said Feed - really balanced view. There is a modest to decent profit at that price not a super one. too many people just go to polar extremes. It's either a turd or pure gold for them, when in practice I think there's relatively few of either spectrum, but rather a spread across those.
Guest TabbyBoy
We all have different opinions and strategies which makes this site interesting and fun. I also expect a lot of members to keep their "trump cards" very close to their chests. It also helps to "think outside the box" sometimes. I often shift stock in volume with no packing needed so I'm happy with £5 cash profit per set if I can shift 20 or more with no effort. Gary81
I think opinions on here are very often clearly skewed based on personal situation. I have amassed about £1200 (current retail) worth of sets for medium term keep including F40, S5, DB, YS, etc. This has taken four months. They stand me in absolutely nothing - essentially free - because of sets like 70917. These sort of flips are perfect for me. Mine has sold at £85 cash, with a two minute local ad being the only work involved. The same margin with other ‘turkeys’ like police stations, ski lifts, bb8’s, heavy assault walkers, etc. If anybody can make £15 easier for a few minutes work then I take my hat off to you. I appreciate everybody has different agendas and there are different types of investing going on. Whilst I read the comments of others with interest and value opinions of those with far greater experience than me, for here and now my personal plan / hobby continues to work without stress, in my own time, and in a way I am more than happy with. 2
Super Hans
I'm very jealous of you guys who can shift sets easily using local ads. Living out in the Cambridgeshire sticks makes it very difficult for me.
Guest TabbyBoy
According to HUKD, Argos have some good discounts for those that don't mind dents or stickers. There's no stock available where most of us live so those living in South Cornwall or the tip of Scotland may get lucky.

Villager Chris
What do you guys think of the 60 year sets' potential? If I was on the Lego management team, the last thing I would want to see is a special anniversary set in the clearance section. Terrible message to send out. I think it'll do very well as it wasn't available for as long as LEGO said it would be (another new CEO failure?). BTW... which clearance section as I've never seen them available anywhere? Not LEGO instore in Hell ( L Sq) I hope! I gave a friend £10 for mine as I didn't see anything I wanted at the time. I'll be keeping it, not selling it. It is likely to be on general sale for a period of time after the 28th - like the nutcracker.

They are killing it as a freebie but not as D2C set to get. Same as London Bus, and Nutcracker in the past. That's how they are going to capitalize leftovers. I've got about 20 to keep me going for a while. Are they still £9.99 at LSQ? Edited February 24, 2018 by TabbyBoy

andyposterfan
Yes still £9.99 and shelves constantly replenished. It one of the first sets you see when you come in and there's not EIB a shelf near the tills. They must sell so many. I've seen this in the airport too

I'll be in London next month and will get a lift home from Haymarket round the corner in a car with space! Thanks. Seriously, I will wipe out their entire stock if I can as I can flip these all day long locally for £15 cash.
