dgoodfellow Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 My daughter and I just made a video showing our lego city layout. Still a work in progress, however we just finished the benches so finally were able to merge our 9v trains with our modulars. next we plan to build MOC roads brick by brick. Check it out on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HAzYLMoCi1Q Hope you like it. Quote
stephen_rockefeller Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Very nice!! Every town needs a Chili's!!! Quote
Flyfisher Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 that's really cool man! did you build the McDonalds or purchase some aftermarket instructions? Quote
dgoodfellow Posted February 4, 2013 Author Posted February 4, 2013 The fastfood restaurants were ebay finds. wish I could take credit for them but I can't. They have very detailed interiors too complete with menus and soft drink fountains too. :-) We will be buying embassy/Consulate instructions from Brick City Depot (City Hall Alternate instructions). nolanfan34 Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 I laughed when I saw the Discount Tire Co. That is awesome! Quote
Rich B Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Very nice job!!! I love the Chili's and Dunkin Donuts! Quote
stackables Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Love it! Can't get enough of cool lego displays. Quote
Teeird Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Very nice, unrealistic however (no hobos) :P Quote
TheOrcKing Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Very nice, unrealistic however (no hobos) Ha ha ha! I gotta remember this whenever I'm building my own LEGO city. Won't be a city without a bunch of bums lying around! That gives me an idea for a soup kitchen type of building. Quote
dgoodfellow Posted February 4, 2013 Author Posted February 4, 2013 Still have lots of mini figs to add. Probably can find some hobos. :-) Quote
legopocalypse Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 are there any good display tables you'd recommend and from where to display ones loose lego sets. Quote
dgoodfellow Posted February 4, 2013 Author Posted February 4, 2013 We used the cheapest ikea desk legs and 4 foot by 4 foot plywood to build our four tables. We also framed the perimeter in 1x3 pine for further reinforcement. Probably would have been cheaper to just build the bench frame and legs from 2x4 lumber but I wanted it to be lighter and more compact if we have to move it in the future. We also have wall size cubic ikea shelving that stores much of our display collection. Quote
Darth Lego Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 There are sets on Cuusoo that are similar to the McDonald's and the other cool buildings in the video. Here's the link: http://lego.cuusoo.com/ideas/view/15229 Quote
Grolim Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Cool video, gave it a +1 Would love to do something like this with my daughters. Don't really have the space though. Make sure you post an update vid when you fill in the roads or other bits. Quote
dgoodfellow Posted February 4, 2013 Author Posted February 4, 2013 Here is the next building we want to tackle. http://mocpages.com/moc.php/318079 Still a toss up if this will be added first or if we will build the haunted house first. Quote
Sauromosis Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Really cool. My 6 and 3 year old daughters loved watching the video. Now I want to do this and the wife isn't happy. :) Quote
dgoodfellow Posted February 5, 2013 Author Posted February 5, 2013 getting the wife on board is critical. My wife supported it as it was a unified tidy way of displaying everything. bringing order to the collection played a big roll in getting buy in. Quote
dgoodfellow Posted February 5, 2013 Author Posted February 5, 2013 I told my daughter I wanted to cut a hole in the wall. and extend the train into the next room of the basement for the hogwarts area. She promptly told my wife the plan. All I could say to my daughter was that she needs to work on her timing and delivery. As expected that plan was shot down. :-) Quote
Sauromosis Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Haha, keep at it. I think I found a way in...incorporate her holiday cottages. Quote
Anakinisvader Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 I didn't see a police station and I think someone was sticking up the McDonalds!!!!!!! :) Quote
dgoodfellow Posted February 6, 2013 Author Posted February 6, 2013 Hmmm. you are absolutely right, we don't have a police station. Now that Hobos are moving in and crime is up we will have to deploy our police mobile command unit and our biker cops. That should keep things in check till the police have a permanent home. Last night we built a single section of MOC road out of bricks. It looks fantastic but it is going to take a lot more bricks. Quote
