Funko pop anyone? Lol

That was my exact thought when I saw them as well.  If you see a product people want, try to emulate it.  It does look like we'll get a lot of new printed bricks/plates, so even if you don't like the look of the builds there is something here for you.

"The company’s brand new LEGO BrickHeadz collectible line won’t hit retail until next year, but fans at the pop-culture event can get their hands on limited-edition preview two-packs ($40 each) featuring blocky, buildable versions of the biggest superhero characters in movies and comics."

Batman and The Joker (July 21)

Doctor Strange and Black Panther (July 22)

Superman and Wonder Woman (July 23)

Captain America and Iron Man (July 24)

These look cool, and for the time being - they will fetch a nice price.

Very reminiscent of the Cubedudes from 2010

Brick fans, brace yourself for the newest San Diego Comic Con giveaway reveal: according to this USA Today article, Lego will be introducing a new line of collectibles starting in 2017 entitled Lego BrickHeadz.  It appears this new theme recreates cute, stylized versions of our favorite Super Heroes in Lego form, similar to Pop! Vinyl Figures.

At San Diego Comic Con, there will be four limited edition "preview packs" that attendees will be able to purchase for $40 each.  They are:

DC Comics

Batman & Joker

Superman and Wonder Woman

Marvel Comics

Iron Man and Captain America

Doctor Strange and Black Panther

No further news has been provided on what the new 2017 BrickHeadz retail offerings will look like or which characters will be provided, but I would guess these characters will all be available at retail.

What do you think about this new theme?  Please give us your thoughts in the comment section below.

Pop! Vinyl mimic or not, these look great and appear to be very collectible.  My big question is whether I splurge on a set of the limited edition SDCC versions on eBay once they're released, or if I wait until the new theme is released in 2017.

I'm guessing that the SDCC version will have a limited edition box. I can't see them releasing major characters like that, for a new retail line, and not making them available at retail.

Maybe the retail ones will be singles while the SDCC ones will be a two pack?

If these are the SDCC sets, it is quite a letdown.  I don't like the look and they will be released at retail too.  On the bright side, I can avoid one more early morning line!

Ha! this is awesome!! & finally something news-worthy to shake the joint up a bit.....it was like a graveyard around here

Yea so $40 SDCC price, perhaps they will sell for 75-80 dollars....

I will wait until release day to get our Batman & Joker and leave these for the die-hards

The question of SW coming in this line is a matter of 'when' rather than an 'if'.

Completely agree SW Brick Headz will be coming, but any thoughts whether they would extend this to in-house IPs like Ninjago or Nexo Knights?  They may try a Ninjago subtheme around the movie release.

It's kind of funny that Mattel announced a line of Mega Bloks Kubros in a very similar style back at Toy Fair in February and have a couple TMNT exlusives at SDCC this year.

Cool - thank you for sharing.  While the MB figures look okay, I really like the box art.  The Leo figure needs a little relief on its head though.

I love these figures.  I also like the fact that these will be released later in the year so I don't have to pay quadruple the MSRP.

Except that these have SDCC-exclusive printed plates. Probably different boxes too. So these are way more 'collectable'. Similar to 1st Edition Falcon, especially if these become a long run hit series.

Small nitpick on the IronMan build. To me IronMan's legs are too short.  The other builds use stacks of 4x flat 1x2 pieces for legs.  Shouldn't Ironman have 4x flats (for legs) on top of the translucent blue 1x2 (exhaust) ??

Trust me, as a collector that has every major LEGO set from a SDCC or convention, the possibility that the same set will be released later in the year will drastically affect the value of these SDCC sets.  I am glad to see it too.  Maybe LEGO is realizing that many of these sets and minifigures given away/sold at these events are being resold immediately by people who have never built a set.  I know some here will disagree with me because they are the ones lucky enough to attend these events, but most of us cannot.  I am tired of spending $200.00 on a $20.00 set.

I 100% agree with you on that. I ferociously hate all SDCC exclusives for this exact reason. If all went to committed LEGO collectors I could maybe forgive the exclusivity. But right now they basically go to the highest bidder. By all means LEGO could just do an auction on their website and spare us the trouble LOL.
