Let me tell you one thing, that show has a gigantic following. Obviously, Reddit isn't the be-all/end-all of measuring a fandom. I just checked out /r/doctorwho, and there's about 100K more subscribers there, than AT. I will say that you see some sort of post referencing LEGO Doctor Who a few times a week. I think I've caught one episode in my life. It's not my thing. And that's fine. Neither is Big Bang Theory (which only has 25K subscribers on Reddit, btw). It hasn't grabbed me or my kids (8 and 4). TheOrcKing Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 They share the same simplicity in design as the simplistic aesthetic of the show itself. My gripe would be playability looking at a number of single stud connections with tiles and the 1x2 narrow legs. In certain ways they remind me of the Miniland models. 2 Quote
citymorgue Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 I will say this set is definitely not for me. It just looks off. Not in the sense of what the characters look like for the show, which I've caught only glimpses off from time to time when the kids are watching TV, but the scale of them just looks dumb. It's that stupid in between from the super awesome constraction figures to the awesomeness of minifigs. It's not a nice in between, IMO. Besides, of all the things Lego could have approved before and after this set, there was something else that could've been more worthy of taking up shelf space. This will be another Ideas set that I'll pass on. Quote
Huskers1236 Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 Lego can't win, can they? They do a minifigure heavy set like TBBT and everyone says it sucks. Then this comes out and they brick build the figures and everyone says it sucks. Ha. I mean, I don't necessarily disagree, but that's mostly because I'm not buying TBBT or AT sets since that's not my bag, baby. I think they did a good job re-creating the characters into brick builds. If you want minifigures, buy Finn and Jake from the Dimensions packs. Again, a Lego Ideas set gets all printed pieces while we suffer through giant sticker sheets in stronger themes. 2 Quote

Per the blog entry, seven brick built characters will be included in the set: Jake, Princess Bubblegum, Lady Rainicorn, Marceline, BMO, Gunter and Ice King. What's with all the hate? It is what it is - LEGO did a great job with this. Quote
Ed Mack Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 Looks cute. Kids will like it. Anything licensed could be a potential winner. Quote
Guest TabbyBoy Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 Am I the only Brit to have never heard of this theme? Or... Am I being tight by not paying for additional TV channels as I've not even got the time to watch standard FreeView & FreeSat? I too think that the set is cute but, will the UK have enough customers for us to fleece after EOL? Quote

I hope you're not interrupting my analysis above as hate. I honestly have no dog in this fight. I was just comparing Doctor Who to AT. There's 10,000 people that took the time to vote on this and get this to the review stage. That's nothing to sneeze at. I don't know the property, and can't say whether it will do well or poorly. I'll pass because I just don't know enough about it. But no hate here. I really dislike The Big Bang Theory, but don't hate the set. Just won't buy it because I hate that show. 1 Quote

Yes - They do look stupid, but they look that way on the show too. 1 Quote

I know every artist has their style, but I think the cartoon is poorly drawn and that translates into ugly figures. That is inconsistent with other LEGO projects we've gotten out of LEGO Cuuso/Ideas. LEGO took a neat idea called Cuuso and is milking Ideas for all they are worth. Unless that rocket is fantastic, I'm skipping out on all recent Ideas sets after Birds except Dr Who. I'll probably sell my lone copy of the Birds set and I'd sell the Exo Suit too (if someone would buy it). 2 Quote

So, you're going out on a limb and saying "Adventure Time" has a bigger following than "Big Bang Theory"? I don't see that one flying anywhere. I wish I had one of these to drink every time a certain word appears here. 1 Quote

But having 10,000 rabid fans who are young and entrenched in Internet culture (also maybe poor if my sister and her friends are representative of AT fans) does not mean any of us will make money on this. Dr. Who has a global following spanning multiple generations. TBBT is watched by tens of millions of people in the US, not counting all the syndication views. BTTF is 30+ year property with multi-generational appeal. AT has a niche following spanning 4-30 year olds. Perhaps a short run will make this profitable in 5 years when a few of the younger fans start making money, but it still doesn't look like a $50 set so buy-in would have to be very low to be worth holding. I'm not here to knock the set itself, but how many people would click yes on any set with their favorite IP in Lego? As an investment opportunity I can't see touching this thing anytime soon. 2 Quote
Voltron Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 From Legos perspective, this is a great set as it will attract a new range of people to lego who will buy as it looks pretty cool and does the set justice when compared to cartoon i.e. teenagers, 18-25 year olds, resulting in more market reach. In my opinion, the future Lego idea sets will be Legos attempt to branch out and reach different consumers i.e. BTTF & ghostbuster sets appealed to people growing up in 80's/90's, exo-suit/wall-e to kids. This set will be a good investment piece down the line as most AFOL's will not buy it, judging by the response here as most people are more used to star wars / modular sets. We need to remember that Lego is a toy and meant for kids, teenagers and parents buying for kids will most likely be the main consumers, leaving a gap for NIB sets 1-2 year after EOL. Just my opinion. Quote
