The last Target superhero set, Brainiac Attacks, is still at RRP after two years of availability. This is another superhero set loser. Superheroes line is like putting your money into a savings account but having to wait 2-3 years to get your money back. All of them, no exceptions, except for Ant Man, and even then it´s not doing that well.

If this is really retiring after 6 months of production, everyone should go ahead and try to stock up. Will it triple up like Antman? Probably not, but it'll easily double up. Also, the biggest discount I've seen on these is 20% so I don't think this set has been stockpiled by that many.

No they shouldn´t. It´s a turd, SH is like throwing away money and it is overhoarded. Move on, there is nothing to see here.
zskid00
Ant-man went out at the right time (Q4) and did not get a heavy restock once the writing was on the wall. Dr. Strange is loaded on Target shelves across the country and will be much more hoarded. My hope is that Target decides to clearance it soon. Then I will put a little money in it, but not at full MSRP.
Val-E
Where did I see DSSS the other day? Ah yes, it was everywhere. Ant Man came and went quietly just like Arctic Plane and RE. For this one, the cat is out of the bag. Edited January 24, 2017 by Val-E
Voltron
DR SSS film performed very well worldwide, is a very good unique build, good playset, unique minifgures, fast seller etc, so it ticks all the boxes. I agree that Superheroes don't perform well in UK compared to USA, but this should be one set that will buck the trend. Note for anyone buying in UK, this set worked out to be 50% when buying in the multiple 3 for 2 in 2016, so there will not be a ant man scenario, however with the "short" production life if it does go soon that should be a good sign. It will definatly perform better than Vader's TIE Advanced vs. A-Wing Starfighter. It seems like theres no real point in stocking up sets early now lego puts retiring soon tags on everything. This was on my radar for buying up later in the year, however this set is still availble everywhere so I'll just try buy if I get good enough discount, but I won't be buying that many. As this set is showing retiring soon in North America, it could be a couple of months delay till retired in Europe. This could result in BPer's buying all stock for investment in Europe, which already isnt that popular for superheros sets, causing a mini exo-suit supply>demand scenario. They are not very available up here in my experience so getting a few with a discount and promo give away is a no brainer if it's fading fast. I like that Lego seems to be regularly throwing in a few short life sets across the themes. Adds a nice casino element to this game.
jeff_14
Just looked on Amazon.ca and the set is going for about twice MSRP up here.
Voltron
Seems like the Brickpicker effect is in motion (in UK anyway). All places online that were selling for £22 / 23 are sold out. Amazon still has for £25. Went to my local TRU and they had 8 on the shelf, I usually just price match and use coupons but no point buying now as cheapest available elsewhere is £25 and with coupons would only work out to be only 25% off. If this was a year ago I would have bought but now I rather risk it and wait for bigger discounts. I've stopped buying now outside of 3 for 2 deals as there seems to always be a deal on the horizon and no point buying full price or less than 40-50% off (for non Exclusives / non hard to find sets) As this set hasn't officially been marked as retiring soon in Europe it should be around for next few weeks anyway. Can you PM me the name and email address as I'd like to ask them about the T1 & TB. However, they'll be unlikely to spill the beans on any long-lived sets. It'd be interested to see if the Strangled Scrotum Sanitarium is discounted next July?
Val-E
If we apply the general rule of misinformation from Lego employeses it will retire when stocks are down to 0. Subject to change is the key phrase.
