Lordoflego Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 (edited) First pics were camo, the orange/blue (is that blue?)I just found on line - that's also original Porsche color combo, some of the final orange Porsche pics plus box photos were provided first by @Pomodoro in another forum. with prices in € and £ already given, isn't it about $350? Ouch.. Edited April 26, 2016 by Lordoflego 1 Quote
weitzel78 Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 I have not built a Technic set since the 8857 Chopper I had as a kid, but I might have to pick this one up for my personal collection. Gizmodo claims $300, not too unreasonable for a 2,700 piece licenced set. Can't wait to see it in person at the Lego Store. Quote
Lordoflego Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 (edited) Yup, you're right, looks like $300. This price may be the only reason why it won't go out of stock on day one, but I guess why not.... the fact that it was made in black with stickers for the camo look, is that a proof that there aren't any new and unique orange parts in the final set? Or Lego would make few black ones just for the toy fair or wherever it was first shown? displaying 3 different colors would be better than one also, when I was loading a picture, for a moment, it was in a different, another color: Edited April 26, 2016 by Lordoflego Quote
Quacs Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 The numbered tile mentioned in the Designer Video is an interesting touch, and a throwback to the 41999 set. I wonder what the "exclusive online content" will be when you enter the vehicle number into the website... This is a day one purchase for me - no question. It is an incredible model. The interior packaging reminds me of the care and design given to an iPhone box. 4 Quote
emazers Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 Well this is one set that all investors should be getting, no excuses, as most Technic sets stay out for 2 years my strategy will be getting one or two every other month, shooting for 10-15. and since as its coming in June I should have 300 VIP Points so the first one will be free, remember 2 yrs come fast so please don't wait forever. Pomodoro Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 From my understanding, Technic is not very popular in the US, this set might be a game changer. I can totally see a new demographic getting into Lego Technic with the Porsche. Quote

From what I've understood and heard, the camo color is just an homage to what they do for the real car in testing phases to help hide the contours and make it more difficult to figure out what's really being produced. And if you watch they designer video, they clearly point out that there are new and unique pieces to the set. 4 minutes ago, yang said: It says 2900 pieces in the designer video... I never actually noticed that myself, but I'm pretty sure it's 2700 pieces. The actual press release says as much, and they still haven't finalized the product packaging. Makes me wonder what exactly they are still trying to figure out with the packaging. I don't recall them waiting this long to get a box finalized. Quote

Popular Post Rimmit Posted April 26, 2016 Popular Post Posted April 26, 2016 (edited) 2 hours ago, jaisonline said: I understand you like the set. Can you tell us why? What tells your gut this will be a winner? This type of info / opinion from veterans like us helps newbies and even older AFOLs and investors. I completely agree with Emazers on this one. I thought this was a near guaranteed winner the moment I saw it. I am not even that big of a car enthusiast but this evokes that emotion that not a whole lot of sets can. This set will be a potential game changer for Lego. Lego has had whole untapped market of middle aged males with disposable income, and that was the car enthusiast, and FINALLY they have come up with a set that will make someone who likes cars and is a minor Lego fan think about making the jump to be a true AFOL. While they have made a small attempt to tap into the Car Enthusiast market, Speed Champions and the Lego Creator Ferrari and Mini Cooper, those sets do not exactly evoke that "high end" collectible feel. This model does. The reasons I believe this model to be a winner are as such: 1. It is an iconic car. If you were a teenage male back in the 1990's, you likely had at least one poster of a car on your wall. There was a high probability chance it was the Porsche 911. 2. It passes the CEO test. I would definitely put this in a glass display case in the middle of a room, put a spotlight on it, and admire it for it's beauty. It has a high end feel, and is just impressive to look at. 3. Will tap into the coveted middle aged male with disposable income market. This is targeted directly at a 35-45 year old male with disposable income. Anyone coming out of their dark ages, after this has retired, and has affinity for cars will want this for display. 4. Potential for a series. If this retires, and is replaced by a Technic Ferrari, Lamborghini, or other high end sports car, this will go through the roof. An AFOL will have a chance to have a whole lineup of beautiful Technic cars to display. 5. Potential for a growing market. While Lego Star Wars market continues to grow, it is likely growing rather slowly compared to the market for Friends, or other markets Lego is now just starting to tap into. The car enthusiast market, is a market Lego, has mostly ignored except for some smaller and mid size sets (Mini Cooper, Ferrari) here and there so far. This set can get a car enthusiast and turn them into a true AFOL, especially if they come out with a new version every two years. The only other potential market I feel Lego has ignored so far is the Disney AFOL market. While they have many Disney Lego's, a large UCS scale Disney Park line or something of the like would go bananas. Thankfully and hopefully the upcoming Disney Castle D2C will change this whole in their strategy, and will only continue to grow that market. 6. International Appeal. It definitely does not hurt that this set will be popular across the globe. Few things can completely transcend countries and regional barriers. Cars (both the Disney movie and the real thing) and Disney, and Star Wars to some degree, transcend international boundaries. This only increases demand for a product. In short, this set has the massive potential, and if you are new to the game, I would strongly consider it. It will likely be less hoarded than the average 300 dollar set due to the fact that it is Technic, and the fact that it is 300 dollars. This is a no brainer for me, and should be for you as well. I think I would pay 600-700 dollars if I was an AFOL coming out of my dark ages to have one of these on display. This is coming from an AFOL who just recently spent 900 on an SSD, and 700 on an UCS Imperial Shuttle after coming out of his not first, but second dark age. Blugh! They look so nice though! Val-E Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 It´s expensive for Technic but cheap compare to any UCS you care to mention - all dependson how you look at it. As mentioned above, it´s investment potential depends on the fanbase and how many of those would be willing to go to 3xrrp to have one. Quote

A shorter version: speaking as both a AFOTechnic and a Porsche fan, LEGO knocked this release out of the park... exceeds expectations. This will not be like the 41999, which was hot on release day but then stagnated afterwards. Many, many people will want this set. This is a "bring out of the dark ages" type of set. The first few limited edition with the unique plates may become highly sought after. If there are supply glitches, it could be a QF ala Research Institute. The cautionary counter-point is that if it sticks around for 2 years, it will be deeply hoarded---maybe even over-hoarded. Personally, I wouldn't go all-in deep with this set, but I wont be skipping it, either. I think there will be plenty of people willing to fork over 3x MSRP for it after its been retired for 2-3 years. A number of car models have some good history behind them. For example, the 8169 LP Gallardo retired in 2010 and is now selling for 6x MSRP. That model evoked the same feelings for me as this one (but was much less hoarded). 3x MSRP for this after retirement is highly likely. Edited April 26, 2016 by SpaceFan9 1 Quote

oneknightr Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 I can't stop looking at the huge gap between the headlights and fender/bumper. I feel like they could've minimized that gap by creating a custom/unique piece that curved upwards. 3 Quote

It sounded to me like every set will have a numbered tile. That's what it sounds like to me as well. I know I read that someone said it would be limited to only 10,000 sets, but that doesn't make sense. Lego said that it will be a LEGO Shop at Home exclusive and parts of Europe for the first couple of months, and then in August released everywhere else. That alone doesn't scream limited edition. Plus they also never mentioned anything like that in their press release. If it were to be so limited, it would've been painfully obvious so as not to piss a lot of people off. Then there is the actual number tile. It's got a lot of spaces for a really large number, so I doubt that it's limited, other than just having a special tile associated with your specific set. And I wonder what the content is. Is it truly going to be unique for each set? Or is it going to be the same content, but with just your tile number added in? That's got me pretty intrigued right now. Quote
