Just being in the book business is a dangerous proposition for any company. I'd like to know what percentage of business books are to Amazon these days?
longshot
I like B&N but amazon is always half the price usually on books. No idea how they stay in business.

Personally I hate B&N, the employees that work at mine are the smuggest, rudest people that I've come across at a retail setting.

Was going to sign up for a membership this year, but won't now that my go to Arch set supplier won't take coupons.

There might be enough people who love the tactile experience of touching a real book, and reading in a physical store, with good coffee, and perusing actual magazines to support ONE business. It was the several competitors that couldn't share those few cavemen.

I strongly disagree with all this B&N trashing. Can't remember the last time I bought a book from Amazon, not a Prime member. I pay $25 for a B&N membership, get my books from them online (not in store), for 20% less than Amazon because of the regular B&N coupons, and shipped to me in 2-3 days free. All Amazon has done lately is add tax in more states, raised the threshold for free shipping, and raised Prime costs over the years.

I hope they stick around because it'll be a sad day when Amazon has a complete monopoly in book retail. Just because they don't want to be Kmart and give away Lego doesn't mean that they suck. Well duh. We'd fleece them for every penny if given the opportunity. I don't think selling Lego for 30-100% off is a profitable strategy.
Salimr
My Barnes and nobles does things Amazon can't. They have reading clubs, school science fairs, tech shows and other cool events. We have had a batman comic day with costumes, Lego building contests, and cupcake decorating and did a similar thing for frozen movie day. my kids and I love it and we totally buy books from a place that we enjoy and have fun events at. I actually avoid Amazon books as I feel like if my Barnes and noble goes away we will have to find something else to do on rainy or snowy weekends.
