The short version of the issue is this: For years, he's been selling/ drop shipping a large portion of Amazon's catalog on eBay for about the same price that Amazon charges. It's a mystery how he makes money, when most of us would be losing money under his model. He pays eBay fees on each transaction and presumably makes money long term.
