Achilles Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 6 minutes ago, redcell said: I just don't get this line of thinking...you think that it's a good buy at $59, but not at $75? What is it about that $16 gap that makes all the difference? Well it's just a matter of where you think you can make the most profit with your investment dollar. To clarify, I have no doubt that at $74 you will make money eventually. The question to me is, where can I spend my money that it will make the MOST money, preferably in the shortest amount of time? For example, just to throw out some numbers - If your profit goal is 50%, at a $74 buy in - you want $37 profit, if you're selling on Amazon - You want to sell for apx $150 make that money. If you buy it at $60 (wanting to make $30) - you only have to sell for apx $125. So to me, it's just a question of - Where can I put my money where I can more quickly/reliably meet that profit goal. And in my case, I just feel that this set at that price isn't the best option avail right now. If I had $740 to invest today, I would (and do) put it in other sets other than IST at this buy in. I like the set, I think it'll make money at $74, it's just not an "OMG Amazing price!" that I feel I need to run right out and buy. And as always, I'm more than willing to be wrong. Ask my stacks of Epic Dragon Battles. 2 Quote

grackleflint Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 Just left my LEGO store and they had just added 75093 Death Star Final Duel to the sale for $63.99 (20% off). They said it was in-store only for today only. 2 Quote
themoose9 Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 yoyo has Naboo Fighter for under $37 if you buy 2 or more (other stuff available but not much on sale) using starwars15. Tax kills it for me but if your tax free and stocking up its a decent deal, with no real limits. Speaking of YoYo...their description of the First Order Snowspeeder Microfighter says: "LEGO Confidential Microfighter Villain craft" ...I find that funny. Quote

Not counting Star Wars UCS exclusives and just going with normal set releases, i'd rank this set up there with Poe's X-wing, and maybe Rey's Speeder Bike as the best bets after they get the axe. Maybe the FO Tie Fighter, Millennium Falcon, or FO Transporter could be some other sets to look at, but currently the deals aren't that advantageous to stock up on them compared to the IST. The IST is probably at one of it's lowest price points that it will go. By the end of this week, there won't be much stock left out there and it will begin to phase out. I could pull up the at-at thread and a lot of people were saying similar things last year this time. They said it all from that set having "limited after market retail potential" to "this is the worst of the at-at releases". Also, I remember distinctly last may 4th taking a little heat from some members, because some of us were taking advantage and buying at-at's, cantinas, and ISD's at target through their deal last year. Those were some of the lowest price points you could get those sets, if you didn't use TRUTH and raise discounts at the time. Everyone was saying "This will get discounted cheaper in July (it didn't)", and "Why stock on a set that will be out for another year" (Nope, they were mostly gone at retail by early November). Looking back, buying those on May the 4th were good decisions. Other than the cantina, most of those sets will already net you 2x. I still am sitting on a good amount of my target at-at stock from last year with a bit of a smile on my face. Regardless, of the naysayin', i'm going to say the IST will be a good bet. This isn't a freaking B-wing. This has a solid selection of minifigures, and has a decent build. This is a ship that probably won't be released again anytime soon. I doubt they redo this as the emperor ship, since that's the only other way I see it getting made. They just put the Emperor out in the Final Duel and if you wish, a person can also get that set to match this one, and interchange the minifigs with this set..and basically you have the Emperor's Imperial shuttle, since it's the same darn ship. When you look at it from that perspective, I say it has a lot of solid potential, especially if you plan on holding it more than a year or two. Edited May 4, 2016 by fossilrock 1 Quote
Rimmit Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 (edited) The irony of the IST, is that it could be the EXACT same model brick for brick in a different box and a Darth Vader, Imperial Guard and Emperor minifigures and this discussion would be completely different. If an AFOL or child in the future wants an Imperial Shuttle, they will have 4 total options, two which were released prior to 2006, 7166 and 7264, with inferior builds, one which is UCS trending at 700 new in box, and this. Which one do you think the majority of people (who don't have a large amount of disposable income) will go for? Edited May 4, 2016 by Rimmit 2 Quote

I absolute LOVE the clean look to the UCS version, unfortunately I am a recent fall-back-in-love w/ LEGO person, so I missed out on getting the UCS version at an acceptable price. 1 Quote

Unfortunately there are no good sales or clearance prices to be had in my area. We cleaned them out of all the good stuff the past two months. I was hoping the stars and planets would have aligned and that they would be running a decent May the 4th sale to stack with the senior discount. No luck. 6 Quote

I checked shopko.com earlier today to see if the MOMSDAY5 coupon gave any good deals - but even $10 off of 75102 (making it $69.99 pre-tax w free shipping) is not worth it. I think the Tie Fighter at Target is the best deal out there (on sale for $59.49 plus you get a $10 Giftcard - though I was sure I saw it in store as $53.49). Edited May 4, 2016 by Phil B Tie Fighter does not qualify for the $10 GC Quote
