binary_storm
Saw it twice on opening day, the first at the midnight show (well, 12:30 by the time it started!) I enjoyed it. It's a good Star Wars movie, better than any of the prequels in my opinion. Not as good as any of the original trilogy movies though, not even Jedi. Where it ranks with TFA is harder: I think TFA is the better-made of the two, but there's no denying its similarity to ANH. Rogue One at least treads its own path, and should be applauded for that. The new characters in TFA were more well-rounded, but the characters in RO were potentially more interesting. Most of the action shots, especially the space-based stuff, were better in RO. What surprised me the most is how much footage from the trailers is missing from the final print. The third act in particular has obviously been significantly altered, with scenes from the trailers no longer making sense given where the characters are physically located during the movie. I must admit I was looking forward to seeing the stuff from the trailers and was a bit disappointed that so much didn't make the cut. If I was being critical I would say that the pacing of the movie seems a bit off: things take a while to get going, and there are some lulls after certain sequences. I could have done without some of the longer monologues: Galen Erso's hologram message went on for too long, as did Cassian's speech in the hanger on Yavin 4. I wasn't a fan of the title cards for the different locations, that felt the most non-Star Wars like thing in the entire movie. And some of the cameos were a bit much, such as the two dudes from the cantina and even Artoo and Threepio. The Saw Gerrera stuff seemed undercooked. But when the stuff in the movie works... damn! Loved all of the space battle. Tarkin was great: CGI still not 100% there, but it's getting really close now. (CGI Leia was less successful I felt). All of the new characters were great, I'd liked to have spent more time with them. K2SO was excellent, loved most of his lines (especially "I find that answer vague and unconvincing" and his quip about surviving in the vacuum of space), plus a brilliant technical achievement FX-wise. Nice seeing Vader acting like a bad-ass again (that "choke" pun though... hmmm). Every single shot featuring the Death Star was spot-on. And the whole movie was beautifully shot too. I hope to see it again before it leaves theatres.
steelmelt
Easily the best SW movie since the OT. Probably my favorite of all the SW movies ever. It's amazing what can be accomplished when JJ Abrams isn't dragging it all down rehashing the same old stuff (TFA and Star Trek I'm looking at you). blocp13
watched this this afternoon and must say thought it was excellent, when I saw the first teasers I was buzzing for this film. Feel I must own all the sets now, baze was my favorite character, what a boss with that gun. Edited December 19, 2016 by blocp13

blocp13
I loved the film, my 6 yr old was really restless but my 10 and 13 year old loved it. seems I liked all the things most didn't, like the vader "choke" pun, and I liked the leia scene, thought it finished off the film brilliantly. I did feel a little sad that they all died, but didn't really have time to let it sink in during the film as the best was still to come. From someone who wore out 1 or 2 vhs tapes as a 5 year old all those years ago, I was not disappointed with this. I find it wrong to compare it with TFA as both are different beasts, and I also loved TFA just as much as RO and can't wait for more Star Wars films if they are going to be like the last 2 installments.

Alpinemaps
^ 12 short months to go Nuts isn't it? 12 months ago, we saw a SW film, 12 months later (today) we got a SW film, and 12 months from now we're getting another SW film. Never have we had it this good. Saw this in Reddit tonight. Anyone remember either of these things?
Black_towr
I've seen RO 4 times so far. My minor complaints are the fact that there isnt a scrawl. The RO logo in the beginning seemed cheap and poorly made. And lastly, I thought the score was pretty weak.

I can't exactly remember when the first quote was mentioned . Second one was when they were watching the ISD over the city and it is mentioned that the crystal are being used to power the weapon . Something like : jyn : what are they bringing in cassian : it is not what they bringing it is what they are taking out . They are using the crystals to power the weapon . In looking at the Reddit thread, it might be someone referring to a book or an episode of Rebels, and not a line from the movie.

My 7 yr son was restless at times and tinkered with the 3D glasses or asked for more popcorn and slushee. However, he was full blown into the movie each time Vader, Stormtroopers, ships flying, etc.. were on screen. After the movie, all he said was "Vader has a castle! The movie was good." richardcore
Second viewing this morning. A much better experience. Video (laser 3D) and audio a lot better and I was more rested so I didn't fall asleep. It's not a perfect movie, a different kind of Star Wars to me but all in all it is good. A worthy addition to the saga.

When you can tell it isn't real (but good), and start wondering how they did it (instead of listening to the dialogue) No big deal though - they did a good enough job with it. agreed, I checked out for a minute or two trying to figure out why he looked off, or why he looked like Jim Carrey's digital Scrooge from A Christmas Carol. Totally missed the dialogue and was distracted every time he was on screen. The Gold Leader and Red Leader footage they dug up was a nice surprise.
