jaisonline Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 US-based online retailers now have the latest Lego Star Wars sets in-stock. Each set looks to be fun builds with neat features and desirable minifigures. Battle on Takodana 75139 , $59.99 This 409 piece is Lego's first attempt at creating a scene from Maz Kanata's castle. Lego is usually "hit or miss" with playsets and set 75139 is probably a "miss" with regards to the castle itself. A small portion of the castle's entrance can be built including the main door and wall that contains a falling tree. The banner above the door is a nice touch and screen accurate although it should be one of many. Included minifigures are Finn, Maz Kanata, unmasked Kylo Ren and 2 First Order Stormtroopers. Ren and Finn's lightsabers are among the included accessories. The set is the most affordable method of obtaining Finn and Ren minifigures. Both Maz and this version of Ren are exclusive to 75139. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B017B1BTD2/? http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=jfOcdvfTNg4&subid;=&offerid=115554.1&type=10&tmpid=2294&RD_PARM1=http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Battle-on-Takodana-75139 Resistance Troop Transporter 75140, $69.99 Set 75139 contains 646 elements. 4 minifigures are included: Princess Leia, Admiral Ackbar and 2 Resistance Troopers. Although not mentioned in the film, Troop Transports are built using parts from B-Wings (and it shows nicely). This set is a nice addition to owners of the Battle on Takodana since it's film's key appearance is on that planet. Leia and Ackbar are exclusive. At 12" long and 4" deep, this set is well sized and perfect for swooshing. http://www.amazon.com/LEGO-Resistance-Troop-Transporter-75140/dp/B017B1BTXW//? http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=jfOcdvfTNg4&subid;=&offerid=115554.1&type=10&tmpid=2294&RD_PARM1=http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Resistance-Troop-Transporter-75140 Both sets are great additions for Star Wars fans of all ages especially children. I would recommend these two sets for AFOLs, builders but not investors. In my opinion, either set will to be remade in 2-4 years and / or the included exclusive minifigures (e.g unmasked Ren, Maz) will be in other sets. I also think the minifigures in the Transport won't have too much demand other than Leia. Finally, Star Wars playlets since the late 2000s haven't been solid investments. At the end of the day, I ask myself if buying sets (as investments) are worth the storage space. I doubt these 2 will be. note: all prices above are suggested retail. View full blog article 2 Quote
Bold-Arrow Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 Any reason you are not recommending these sets for investment down the road? Quote
zskid00 Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 Do you see the value in Takodana at $59.99 for only 409 pieces? I don't see many large elements there and it seems like a pretty underwhelming build for that price. I can see this one being discounted early and often by retailers. Quote
jaisonline Posted January 2, 2016 Author Posted January 2, 2016 Good question. I just updated the blog. Quote
JRandall Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 These sets are far too expensive for what the buyer is getting. Quote
joch29 Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 I'm sure they would make good investment when purchasing at the right price...but at retail, I agree way too expensive for investing in it. 2 Quote
Bold-Arrow Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 Agreed on the price range . We should expect some deals along the road . Quote
stackables Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 Ren figs looks pretty sweet. Definitely makes his expensive shuttle a skip for me. Quote
Huskers1236 Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 I picked up Battle of Takodana today, but I also had $20 in VIP points to use. I agree $60 is way too high. Picked up a couple of the First Order Battle Packs as well. Will dump the build in the parts bin, keep the figures. Quote
Roy vd M. Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 Here in the Netherlands it's rather extreme. The 75139 costs €70 here (so approximately $75). Not sure it will be a great success at MSRP, even with 5 minifigures. My plan: wait half a year and see if the set will be discounted everywhere, as mentioned above. Then decide at what point I'll try to grab it. The fewer discounts I'll see, the more I'll want to have it and the more I'll feel comfortable buying it at only 20% discount or so. Quote

Yes, that ship build is horrible and a new model will be out at some point that is better. Once I saw that Ren was available in another set, I immediately decided that his ship was a no buy. Quote

The wings should have smooth surfaces and can swing out properly like how it is in the movie. Quote

Huskers1236 Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 I think Kylo's ship is pretty much a guarantee for UCS treatment. It almost needs it to be to get it right. Surely they can figure out how to get the wings to "slide" up instead of hinge up. Quote
jaisonline Posted January 2, 2016 Author Posted January 2, 2016 I must be one of the few BPers who actually like the Ren's Shuttle set. Like all the other TFA sets, it's overpriced by 20% or so. I also really like the First Order Transport. Just wish it was bigger. Quote
seapotato Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 Is it just me or do other people think the ships are really ugly in this movie?! 1 Quote
justapilgrim Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 Is it just me or do other people think the ships are really ugly in this movie?! Makes me appreciate the prequels. Tons of nice ships Quote

Who has money to build awesome ships? The First Order sunk all their money into Starkiller Base. The Resistance is barely funded by the New Republic. That's all they can afford. 2 Quote

I think kylo ren ship is nice, like a bat from front view. Evil looking, menacing. The lego kylo ren ship OTA is a fail, requires a redesign. The first order troop transport is functional, like those WW2 beach landing craft. Built to transport troops into front line of battles. X wing, TIE fighter and MF are the same. I find prequel ships are too slick and too plentiful. Everytime a different ship appears, i just have a cynical thought that it is another new design for merchanise sake. Quote

I proclaimed my crush on Sandcrawlers well before you By the way, there was a debate on the Facebook Jawa club created by Jason whether Jawas made a cameo in TFA (Jakku scene when Rey fights those 2 thugs). I believe the answer is still no unfort. 1 Quote

I find many of the PT ships and vehicles creative and eye-catching. I really love both Jedi Starfighters / Interceptors, the AAT, MTT, Republic Gunship, AT-TE, Turbo Tank, and even many of the Confederation droid vehicles. It makes sense that during the Clone Wars we would see a lot of new military vehicles being developed. 1 Quote
