This was at sold out status a few weeks ago.  I posted it on the "out of stock" thread.  Granted, usually when they hit "SO" a second and third time that's a telling argument that EOL is near.  ToO did a similar thing, and so have quite a few others, and I don't think i've seen any of those back in stock since.

Just FYI I saw "call to check" on SAH for Red Five.

I called and was told by Lego customer service that it was definitely not being discontinued and would be available at least for a little while longer, so just check the website and they'll put up a new shipping date when it becomes available.  Basically it was the "don't worry that's not going anywhere soon" attitude.

But then I brought up the DS and said "yeah I'm surprised to see there's a shipping date on the Death Star again."

CS rep said "what? Really? That's the first I'm hearing of this. Let me pull it up."  As he was pulling it up he said "I'm surprised to hear that, we get calls from people about this set every single day."

He looked it up and saw what I saw and seemed very surprised. I said: "so if I don't have this set and want one, now is the time to buy one....?"

He really didn't answer the question, kind of avoided me.  Point is that he was genuinely surprised the DS was available to ship. For whatever that's worth.

Excellent. Release the hordes, Smithers!

Yeah.  ToO and Sea Cow are the only exclusive sets that played by the rules this year.  A set that goes to sold out and then comes back more than once is like one of those aging rock stars who keeps alternating between comeback tours and farewell concerts.

To the extent that there's any sort of pattern behind lego retirements, it's R5's turn to go.  We're still due a Fall SW UCS set, right?

Sea Cow still available on Amazon and Shop at Home.  I think it was available at Walmart a few days ago too...

I think you need to look to EV & not R5 to be replaced by Hoth...

I´m taking red 5 back to sold out status as very good news, though.

So the expected EOL exclusives are now seemingly ToO, Seacow, Red5, PS and maybe one of the landmark buildings. That´s a reasonable club to belong to and maybe one more OT set will join it.

This says "We're sorry that this set is not available. Please check back in January for product availability." I'm not taking it as "this will be readily available in January"...

Simpsons house had a similar message for many months to check back in Sept and it did came back. I think it will come back in January

January is still a busy season for retail as many people receive cash and gift cards for Christmas. This set is primarily targeted for collectors anyway, so they will buy it no matter what month it is. I think Lego is facing production capacity issue and earliest they can push this set out is probably January.

So LEGO is doing a better job communicating with us, I guess.

Not suggesting a conspiracy at all, but isn't January, after the biggest spending holiday, a dumb time to bring a big set back? I guess they're aiming at collectors who like to spend money in February?

The timing makes me scratch my head.

IMO it's smarter to produce more and more xwing and MF from the new trilogy to avoid a shortage before Xmas (remember Xmas 2014, lots of demand for these sets), than producing some more (supposed) less popular sets that have already been available for 2 years.
