Gang,

I turned my alerts off for this set a few weeks ago.  I'm at my quota and ready for this to retire (or get a new box lol).  Have the alerts quieted down on this set or are Amazon and other retailers still getting stock off and on?  Hoping that last production run was it...

Stock is still going in and out.  I just received one yesterday from Amazon.

This is the part I do not understand.  Why didn't R5 come with an exclusive Luke figure ?  Slave I comes with Boba fig and even the TIE comes with a pilot

What the generic R2 isnt enough for you?  besides who buys a UCS set for the minifigures.  thats like buying playboy for the articles...

wait does that metaphor still work? does anybody buy playboy for the girls anymore? does anybody buy playboy at all anymore?

The minifigs for Star Wars UCS have been inconsistent.  Just look at the B-wing, Jedi Starfighter, Vader's TIE Fighter, AT-ST, and Y-wing, etc. which had none.  On the other hand there have been many UCS vehicles with minifigures such as the Falcon, Imperial Shuttle, SSD, and recently Sandcrawler, Slave 1, and TIE Fighter.  This X-wing is a bit half-hearted with an R2 but no Luke and stickers on the cockpit.  Other than that I have no complaints.

Heath Ledger...

Err, I obviously, don't mean Heath Ledger buys the minifigures...

Boba Fett adds significant value to Slave I.  Luke would not have added much to R5.  Still, the set is $200 for 1500 pieces, half of them stickers.  Lego could have thrown in an exclusive Luke minifig as a half-hearted apology for releasing an overpriced set bursting with stickers.  I would have appreciated a Tarkin minifig too, just 'cause Lego doesn't make enough sets with him, and he's the most awesome, iconic character in any of the Star Wars movies.  Plus he'd look wicked cool at the controls of an X-wing.

Not arguing over how awesome Tarkin was. However, what respectable Grand Moff would want to sit in some rinky-dink old X-Wing when he had the brand new and shiny Death Star under his command ? :P

Lol R2 was at best gunner / mechanic.  Last time I checked most people wanted to be the pilot (ie. Luke ;) ).  Even Hollywood knew this, otherwise Goose would have survived instead of Maverick :D

But Goose's wife/girlfriend was way hotter than Maverick's. That's not my opinion...that is a fact.

Didn't mean much since everyone in the beach volleyball scene (well, except for Goose :P ) was prettier than any of the ladies :D:D:D

Which reminds me, I would spend $200 on a Technic style F-14 Tomcat if they ever decided to make one for the new Top Gun movie.  Blue Power is nice but I want a Tomcat with adjustable wings!

Ha ha...I remember how beach volleyball got REALLY popular after that came out!

Okay...back on topic:

Ummm...yeah this set is cool. And has terrible stickers.  Star Wars! yay!

I do think that the new movie will have no effect on the current star wars theme (OT stuff).  This is based on my experience buying and selling the vintage action figures while episodes 1-3 were coming out.  IIRC (which is certainly not a great way to judge things) the prices of those didn't see a spike nor did they decline durning that period. They actually started to level out around that time.  But those were the good old days where we would just buy stuff and sell stuff.  We never considered things like "the long term ramifications of the inclusion of Luke with a blue lightsaber vs green lightsaber on the current market conditions."

note do self, throw in a Luke keychain with each R5 sold. better yet mini xwing. one for the house, one for the car

Well...  My answer would be "Any Grand Moff who wanted to survive the Battle of Yavin".  On the other hand, Tarkin's stubbornness provided his best line:

"Evacuate now, in our moment of triumph?  I think you overestimate their chances!"
