Mine arrived today each with one side single tape sealed 05r5 and the other sides are double taped 08r5

Mine are like this too. At first i thought it was just 05R5 (which is the coolest date code stamp this set could possibly have) but the other side has that double taped 08R5 as you noted.

I wonder if there was something wrong that caused them to unseal and retape them between the beginning of February to the end? Maybe this would explain the LONG delay in getting these back into stores? Or was it simply a delayed shipment and they always recode them for when they leave the factory? I like the mystery of the codes, but also the info we can try to infer from them.

my lego store has them, but arent putting them on the shelves. You have to ask. ...05r5 for mine as well

To me, this says that they aren't planning on getting enough of them to waste time making a shelf spot for them.

That's how my store was working, but then, they did make shelf tags after all.

Red Five, Are you alive?

05R5...i didnt get it, is that a last run?...i got none yet...time to pull the trigger or what?...thanks.

Nobody knows for sure, but if you haven't gotten one and you know you want one, you should move quickly. May 4th will be two years and this one is showing many signs of "The Dance".

Out of Stock at ALL retailers (in the US) from December till March 8th. Back at ONLY lego B&M and LEGO Shop at Home, both with limits.

Feels alot like when the SSD had very similar behavior, and when R2 did the same dance.

I went to the Lego Store intending to buy Red 5's, seals were 08R5.  Instead of buying two Red 5's, I bought four 79018 The Lonely Mountains which the Lego Employee said was definitely done.  You can't go wrong with either one, you sometimes go with your gut feeling.  I already have 6 Red 5's so I wanted to diversify.  It would be curious to read this post two years from now and find out what was the better investment.  Two Red 5's or four 79018's.

Both sets will be winners; I am extremely bullish on each.

But keep in mind... The Red 5 is from the SW line, which will be in the midst of an absolutely HUGE film cycle two years from now, creating epic demand for all-things SW. Middle-Earth is likely, and sadly, gone from Cinema possibly forever. The books will of course always be tremendously popular.

"A rising tide lifts all boats".

If you own a box, full of Legos, with a Star Wars logo on the box, I would count on great things coming regardless of the contents of said box. What J.J. Abrams will do with these upcoming films is going to re-ignite the franchise epically... bringing in an entirely new generation of SW fans who want all that is currently available- and all that was once available.

And that's when these sets skyrocket. I believe SW investing is the most promising avenue as a Lego Investor for the next ten years and likely beyond (along with the staple investment of Lego MOD's, of course).

A trilogy-story every other year, with a character-focused story in the years between... the Star Wars frenzy is going to be global and unprecedented.

I personally don't even like the Red 5, and couldn't care less. My future customers will, and even if they didn't it's a must-have for the TRUE Lego SW fans- of which there will be many, many, many, many millions. An entirely new generation is going to be introduced to what we've all known and loved. And they're going to love it too.

It's going to be hard to find "losing" sets in the SW line with the epic demand, popularity, and global upsurge that will be ignited this December.

Announcement today about the name of the first Star Wars spin-off movie for 2016.  The title is Rogue One:

http://www.starwars.com/news/rogue-one-is-the-first-star-wars-stand-alone-film-rian-johnson-to-write-and-direct-star-wars-episode-viii

Presumably, the movie will deal with Rogue Squadron during the OT and one might assume there will be traditional X-Wings in it.

I enjoyed the Rogue Squadron book series. I wonder who will play Wedge if it's set in OT.
