Hmmm.. if this doesn't pan out (let's wait for March) I might take up that TRU Canada offer: got relatives in the Great White North who could make this purchase and then ship it down to me. It is $250 CAN but I have to go figure out what the exchange rate is to see if this is worth it.

Checked the exchange rate: if you have people in the Empire of Canadia that will do you a solid, the exchange rate is pretty favorable: $250 CAN is almost precisely $199.00 USD. TRU.CA has it on their site.

Current exchange is essentially 80 cents on the dollar... Multiple the Canadian price by 0.8 - makes it $200 US... but tax usually hurts a little more up here.

They don't have 20 left in stock anymore though... it is now 25 but it really does appear to be it.

** Edit, make that 23 since I posted <not me either>. **

Have one that I'd honestly like to return for another set like a tumbler or slave 1 but how long this has been back ordered has me scared to do so. Just my luck the day I return it will get retired tag lol

I think you will regret returning Red 5 in order to buy a set like Slave I or a Tumbler. They are all great sets, but Red 5 has a very high possibility to retire earlier than the Slave I or the Tumbler.

I second that.  Already selling for $270-300 depending on venue.  Not sure why you would want to return a set closer to its way out than the other 2 that has been hard to obtain the last month or so.

Yea thats why I haven't done so. I think its days are numbered so I'm holding on and all logic says not to swap a red 5 for a newer set. This was one of my first sets I put money into for investing just have to make smart INVESTMENT decisions first. How do some of yall who build and invest decide on which choice to make when you go into the store just curious. Seems like a diehard investor will never end up with a newer set because logic keeps saying get the set 2 or 3 yrs in product

For larger exclusives, I wait 1 to 1.5 years after they are released before buying an exclusive set for an investment. For the smaller sets, I will start buying them after 1 year.

Has anyone that has a December back order gotten any updates information or calls to verify status?

Just verifying has anyone ordered a Red Five in late December, January or February and received it from shop.lego.com?

Anyone?

If so please specify approx order date and delivery date.

Ordered mine in January and still waiting. Why don't they just cancel the order and slap a sold out / retired tag on it already! Quit beating around the bush.

I sold a 10227 Bwing locally (I think that is the set number) and we were chatting about the red five. He waited too long to order and was waiting for his. He ordered over the phone and the Lego CS rep told him that he would for sure get it. Didn't have the heart to tell him not likely.

That was two weeks ago... Oh well, if not he can have one of mine for $300. :D

Not that the lengthy OOS status is unprecedented, but just for fun, let's consider the possibility that the lag in order fulfillment / cancellation is due to a change in production plans.

Is it too difficult to believe that there was perhaps internal disagreement or lack of certainty about moving this set toward EOL last year, and the slow sales we generally perceived in the Pre-Chaos Era swayed the decision... but then The Horde Effect rose up and got Lego's attention, forcing them to reconsider their position on this set when the considerable stockpile out there disappeared much sooner than expected?

If a "replacement" UCS type Ep VII X-Wing isn't in the works for a couple years, what harm could it do Lego to keep this around a bit longer and see what happens, especially when the UCS TIE Fighter appears?

I can't think of anything more chaotic than Lego realizing they can't project near-EOL sales like they used to because of the horde, and therefore deciding to become more flexible and reactive instead. That probably betrays my ignorance of manufacturing, but still... with 15% growth in 2014 and some brilliant new ideas lately, Lego could be a little more ahead of the game than some of you think.

Almost had a heart attack this morning when I recieved an email from the lego shop titled "your order has been fulfilled." Unfortunately it only meant that the free lego calendar that the order came with is on its way. Major frowny face :(

It seems to me that the Red 5 will be here at least through the end of the year when Episode 7 comes out.  With the UCS Tie coming out this year, and the DS continuing to be available, and Slave 1 as the latest UCS Stars Wars set, the Red 5 making a comeback makes perfect sense.  What ships does everyone expect to see in the new movie?  The X-Wing, a Tie Fighter, the DS, and possibly the Slave 1.  That leaves the MF.  It could be the MF has a minor role in the movie, so a new one may not be necessary.  Or it could be they make another non UCS MF, but different than 7965.  And you might add R2 to this list.  Has anyone noticed that R2 reappeared on the Target website, at RRP no less.  Also, Target has the DS at RRP for the last week, which has not happened since last year.  It could be TLG intentionally reduced production last fall to prolong it's life until the movie arrives, to create some chatter from the AFOL world, and concentrate on other production for the Christmas season.  I think Red 5 will be back.

Trying to use logic seems futile.

Obviously, TLG will want to keep HH around for Halloween....right? Then I had to F5 and scramble.
