Look at what came in the mail today. Thanks to trekgate for running this small contest to make things interesting.

What I am also impressed about is the nice packaging in addition to him coming through.

Very cool, that Trek's alright!

Looks like a Uline box!

Nice! He is an expert at packaging his items! :D

So seeing I got to leave the warehouse early from our lovely snow situation in *** I decided to start this.  After doing the Imperial Shuttle last week I have to say this is a breeze so I guess that's why the set gets a little less love than others.

I still like it but I breezed through Bags 1-5 in under 2 hours.  So for $200 I guess a 4 hour build might be a little less than desirable.

I do like it though, mainly because I like X-wings in general but can see better why the set might not of been the best seller.

The shuttle was much more complex price point wise.  It is a 1000 pieces larger than Red 5 but had a lot more to it I guess.

Think the sets with numbered bags are much easier as a whole than the older ones that required sorting and such.

Gotta say I'm hooked on building these UCS sets lately.  Never was a huge builder just mainly reseller and been enjoying them.  Biggest decisions is what's next.  I brought 4 things home (Helicarrier, Red 5, Town Hall that came in on Amazon load in bags lol, and a Tumbler).  Chose Red 5 first mainly because I enjoyed the shuttle so much and was in the SW mood I guess.

I want it to build it. Problem is that now I'm starting to invest, I think of money and can't get myself to open a MISB set. I haven't cracked yet.

You should try and decide what primarily attracts you to Lego. If your first love is building and displays of built sets, then you need to build it. If your first love of Lego is the investing side, then keep it sealed, pack it up and don't look at it until you are ready to sell. There is no incorrect answer as it is a matter of preference.

The factual part is that there will be other opportunities to make money or you can wait and hope to find a used one in the future.

I'm guessing you didn't apply the stickers? :P I know it's gonna take me more then 2 hours just to apply them lol

damn snow is going to kill my planned target 50% clearance shopping tomorrow.

Kids have been home for the 3rd straight day as well which puts a dent in productivity.

yep messing up business for me as well

You getting any snow?  Just rain/ice hear.  Warehouse had a decent amount and north of it is getting hit hard.  Just nothing much right here.

nope I never apply them to any high dollar sets. Have big fingers and never get them on right.    All the technic my friend and I have built they all peel so I just don't do them anymore.  Keep them with the books just in case I want to sell down the road.

Couple inches at least around 6pm.  Most melted now on the roads. We'll see if we get more tonight or if it melts/rains.

Enough to ruin productivity though.  Ice-ball fights with the kids outside today instead of work.

yeah same here.  Funny how just 20 minutes north is getting a lot more and 40 minutes north is getting blasted.

Chattanooga is coated , so is Dahlonega up.  Went ahead and postponed a truck til next week as Nashville didn't want to ship in.  Probably for the best.  I-24 is not a fun interstate in bad weather.

newbiecollect thanks a lot! I can tell you ravenb99 has helped me a lot on box advice. That is a uline box and works great for your shipment and amiibo's. :)

That's a pretty cool lookin' shirt. Where did you purchase it from?

I agree with this, but based on a comparison between Red 5 and Slave I.

I gradually built the Slave I over several weekends and then built the Red 5 last weekend.  The build for the Slave I was enjoyable and rather complex in the way the ship is designed.  The Red 5 build was pretty simple and just seemed like a larger version of the build for 9493 X-wing, which, of course, it is.  But, for $200 the Slave I is the way to go if having to choose between the two.

Both models are still very impressive when built.  The Red 5 dwarfs the size of the 9493, but I don't think people realize that until one can see it in person.  It will be interesting to see how the upcoming UCS TIE fighter is received at the $200 price point because I see a lot of similarities in UCS Red 5 and TIE compared to their 9492 and 9493 versions.

Hi there! I'm a newbie here to the board/community and just bought a couple of 10240's as a first investment because it looks like they are retiring it soon, because it is iconic to the Star Wars universe, because it is a UCS set, and ... well darnit- it looks really cool.

Was this an okay "first dip" into lego investing? opinions?

Hi welcome to the forum.

IMHO you did a solid first investment there. Can I ask where did you buy them? Lego brick and mortar store?

What no Steamrollers? I kid. That's an excellent choice. Iconic part of the Star Wars franchise. Hard to go wrong with exclusives. Now diversify.

Ummmm... well I hope that my order is actually fulfilled but I actually just bought them right off of the lego store site. It said that they were delayed up to 30 days, but I followed up with a call and the CSR said "if it is on sale at the site, we will get it to you." Apparently they are waiting for some stock to be delivered and will ship them out once they get them. What is great is that I'm getting both sets at MSRP. Also, as a new purchaser they bumped me up immediately to VIP status (which means my purchase is actually $20 cheaper than the total since I get about 400 reward points). Also, they let me buy the helicarrier... but that is for another thread :). So all in all this was a win, I suppose. I asked if I could buy more than two- sadly they limited me.

Glad to hear that this was a good "first investment".

Welcome!

And yes it's a pretty good first buy, however backorders have been cancelled before. So i find it funny they say "If you can order it you'll get it!" I've had some HH's and SSD's taken away from me on backorder :(

I've had a Red Five on backorder for a couple months now, honestly I've given up that it will ship and went and grabbed a couple from a local Lego store.

Anyways i do hope they ship for you! i'd just take what they told you with a grain of salt, and maybe see if you can obtain them elsewhere before it is (potentially) too late. Unless it already is too late in the US.. not sure.

See? Here...

That's the link to the lego shop. They say that it will ship within 30 days, but it is "hard to find" but available.

Good luck. I ordered some in Dec. It said ships in 30 days then too. Still haven't seen them..
