Are these types of sets ever discounted or should i just buy it full price and take the free winter soldier and vip points? Shipping is now 30 days out.

only discounts I have heard of are for sets like B-Wing, that for what ever reasons just dont sell as expected (Red5 is definitely not one of these), or the once in a blue moon 3rd party screw up where they discount them as part of a larger sale, and generally find the mistake pretty quickly.  At this point the best Red5 "discounts" you will see are LEGO Shop at Home points and promos.  Newer sets like Slave1 can be bought at TRU online with discounted GCs, and points.  But the hold time on those will be much longer than those doing the dance at LEGO Shop at Home.  Also you can stack target GC with Red card discount online and save some money on sets they have.

Rarely you will see old exclusives at TRU like we did briefly with Tower Bridge.  But those are pretty rare.  At this point if you want a chance at Red5 grab it where ever you can find it, or order form LEGO Shop at Home and at least get a free Winter Soldier.

Two of Red 5 arrived yesterday, but both are in bad shape. Since the shipping box is okay, LEGO LEGO Shop at Home seemed to send the returned items.

Can I ask partial refund for this case? I think it's hard to get a replacement. If I contact CS, they would ask me to return them, right?

Ok, thanks guys. i finally bought one. Sick of watching and waiting and next month's promo doesn't look as good as Winter Soldier.

I've wondered this also. And if so, how much? If reselling, wouldn't you need like 50% off to justify keeping a banged up box?

Edit: From more reading on the forum it sounds like LEGO doesn't care too much if you have a banged up box. You can either return the item or sometimes they'll throw you a couple hundred VIP points.

I was told years ago that they basically didn't care if they were damaged. Maybe that's changed...

I have come to expect a few nicks, dents, and/or creases when getting sets from Shop at Home.  They are either poorly packed (though not as bad as TRU) or manhandled by Fedex by the time they arrive.  Overall they aren't terrible, but I did get a Red 5 last week that looked like it had been sat on so I called customer service and they setup a return and replacement for me.

I was surprised to get a shipment notice today. You guys probably already know the drill but they shipped out my Winter Soldier, poster, and Lego Land ticket promo in advance, without the X-Wing. I guess that's a good thing so when the X-Wing comes I don't have the minifig rubbing against it. This is normal I'm assuming for backordered items?

Yep.  This is exactly how they handle those situations.

Lego store in North Atlanta had about 3 Red Fives on the shelf. I've been in there a lot over the past few months and this is the first time I've seen it on the shelves again.

Saw 3 at my local Lego store in Canada earlier this week. Went back last night and down to one left with a huge crease near the bottom half of the box on the front panel. Going to wait for new stock.

Hi Everybody,

I need your suggestion regarding the 10240-1: Red Five X-wing Starfighter. I founded it in a shop, selling price is 50 eur less than italian market price..so I'm really wondering to buy it.

I have some doubt regarding the box condition, because it is new, but the package is not in good condition: edges are scratched, few dents on the front, few parts bleached..so the external package is not mint.

1) The question is: buying this set for investing purposes, how does the bad package condition influence the future price of selling?

It is a very good set, well build and appealing in this moment, but I have some doubt that bad package condition will affect future selling price... from a future buyer point of view, honestly I will be a little disapponted to receive the set in those conditions (if it will not have a special price performance like the Dead Star..)

Does it worth to save 50 eur in this set, or may I buy it mint from other online shops at the real market price?

2) Comparing to other set, do you suggest to buy it in bad conditions (saving 50 eur) or leave it, and invest in other sets? for example 10220-1: Volkswagen T1 , or 10214-1: Tower Bridge, or 10234-1: Sydney Opera House?

Thanks!

Looking to pick up this set in a few weeks...do you think it will potentially retire soon? I want to pick it up and build it/ display it, and idk when is the right time to bite.

I don't think it will retire that soon. But if u want to build and have the means, no time like the present.

I've seen it on the shelves all the time at my Lego store in the Northwest.  I always see it out of stock online, with a notice stating it will ship back orders.  I talked to an employee and I guess they have 2 different warehouses.. one for the stores and one for online sales.  I forgot to ask if the local store one is part of a district or shared among all Lego stores in the nation.  I'm guessing the later is what they do.

Any case I picked one out in case it gets discontinued..  Wanted to get the Slave 1 first, but I figured I have time on that one.
