psumackenzie
Hi Everyone, I have been checking out this site for a while now but this is my first post. I wanted to say hi to the community. I stumbled back into the world of Lego back in 2007/2008 when doing some Christmas shopping and came upon a Lego store. I went in and was instantly taken back to my childhood, I went home with the VW bug and built it that same night. I had so much fun building that set I just started buying more and my wife bought be the millennium falcon (10179) for my birthday. I later bought the grand carousel for my newborn son, I thought it was a much cooler mobile than anything selling specifically for babies! So over the years I have accumulated quite an inventory of Lego sets. I didn't realize the value until happening up on this site a couple of years ago. I thought it was fun to see the value of my sets and my "net worth" but never really considered selling any. That was until this year, I recently attempted selling my millennium falcon on eBay and now I am terrified that I am being scammed even though I have no reason to really feel that way. Im just worried a buyer will receive it take out the satellite dish, tell eBay it wasn't complete and demand a refund. Is there really any protection from something like that happening? Sorry for the introductory run on, I look forward to your input!

When I sell valuable items, I always insist on cash-on-collection (disable PayPal option) and make sure that the buyer is happy with the box condition (or contents if unboxed) before completing the transaction. I share your concerns as I think there are more dodgy buyers than sellers as eBay nearly always seems to side with the buyer. When I list an expensive item on eBay, I always use BIN with manual Best Offer. This way I can check a potential buyer's feedback before accepting an offer. For example, I'd rather sell 10179 to a buyer with 100 transactions at 100% feedback for £2000 than to someone with 50 transactions at 95% feedback for £2250. It's a very bitter pill to swallow if eBay side with the dishonest buyer. Edited December 21, 2015 by TabbyBoy Removing double-spaces. terrymc4677
Welcome aboard. If you are leery of eBay, then consider posting it on the brick classifieds. It will go to a fellow picker, who you know will appreciate and take care of it, and you won't have to pay any selling fees. Good luck! Carp
I started somewhat by accident as well. My mother in law bought me some sets for Christmas & my birthday over the past several years. Part of me said to keep them in their boxes while another part said to open up and put them together. It ended up being about a 50/50 split. I bought some ones I liked along the way as well. I never really looked into selling any of them until recently. It was then that I discovered this site and the volume of trading/reselling that goes on. I'm not sure how much I'm going to invest into this but, I do know I'll have fun along the way.
thoroakenfelder
I only got one set to build with my daughter. It was the Desert Skiff 9496. I wanted something Star Wars and it was 20% off at Walmart. I wound up liking it so much, that I decided to pick up the Rancor Pit and Jabba's Palace. That started me on a path down a deep hole.
