Crustybeaver Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 So another year is drawing to a close and I thought it would be cool to get an idea of what are peoples top five sets of 2015? Mine in no particular order... 1 Quote
HappyHawkeye Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 As a seller: Jurassic World Indominus Rex Raptor Escape Series 14 Minifigures (not a set per se, but I sold a ton of these...) Gingerbread House Ocean HQ Quote
fossilrock Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 (edited) As a collector: Ferris Wheel Slave 1 Wall-e Detective's Office Mystery Machine As a quick flippin' low life: Gallimimus Trap Gingerbread House Indominous Rex Breakout Raptor Escape Poe's X-wing Starfighter Wall-e and Series 14 minifigures are also in here if you were an early bird. As a long term investor: UCS Slave 1 Ferris Wheel Complete sets of JW theme UCS Tie Fighter Wall-e Edited December 16, 2015 by fossilrock 1 Quote
matt1147 Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 I am limiting my list to sets I own and have built (so no Slave 1 or UCS Tie yet). I totally agree with Ferris Wheel, Wall-E and Detectives Office!! My other 2 would have to be Shuttle Tydirium and Winter Toy Shop (although I know as an investor, it is practically sacrilegious to include it) Quote
inversion Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 As a collector: Slave I Ferris Wheel Ninjago Temple Helicarrier Tie Yes, I am nuts for exclusives. What I miss is a decent, large Architecture release. Only these mid sized classic tourist trap landmarks I see. It seems they stopped with modern architecture, no release even in the sizes of Farnsworth House or Villa Savoye. FLW series seems to be dead. The series should be renamed now to 'Landmarks', as I see it was really steered away from showcasing architecture with bricks. 1 Quote
TheGallows Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 Just as a collector, my top 5 in no order Slave 1 Wall-e UCS Tie Detective's Office Temple of AirJitzu Quote

HappyHawkeye Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 I just got into selling & building this year, so I've been spending a lot of my earnings on sets for me & my boys. so even though many of these are old here were my favorites that I built: Temple of Arijitzu - beautiful set that makes me wish I was a kid again Ewok Village - lots of nostalgia with this one as the Hasbro Ewok Village was one of my favorites toys from my youth Queen Anne's Revenge - built a used set bought off of Craigslist. Particularly fun for me as I always wanted a lego priate ship as a kid & never got one Imperial Hotel - love the way this set displays, I will have it in my office for many years to come Winter Village Cottage - bought & built all of the winter village sets this past month & this was my favorite Thus far I have resisted the urge to build any of my modulars or Star Wars UCS sets...but I'm positive that's going to change in 2016. By far the thing I've liked best about this hobby is the ability to build these fantastic sets. 2 Quote
Battrax Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 (edited) For me: 10248 Ferrari F40 (it is a bloody F40 and a good model, naysayers be damned) 70751 Temple of Airjitsu (a huge surprise in features, building techniques and just sheer beauty) 42043 Mercedes-Benz Arocs (worthy successor to the Unimog). 42042 Crawler Crane (deceptively large and lovely gearbox complexity). 31031 Rainforest Animals (an adorable fly, clever little frog and a beautifull parrot that poops!) Honourable mentions: The whole Speed Champions line (especially the Porsche GT Starting Line) Blue Power jet The 1:1 half Lego, half real Porsche 911 GTE that Porsche had outside one of their shop stands at the village at the 24 Heures du Mans (wish that was available as a kit). Edit: found a promo video for it Edited December 16, 2015 by Battrax 1 Quote
Crustybeaver Posted December 16, 2015 Author Posted December 16, 2015 The Crawler Crane is a great set 2 Quote

ZULU Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 For me it's Death Star Dolphin Cruiser Red Five (is it really?) Arctic Supply Plane Tower of Orthanc ... obviously in the category MOST HAPPY THESE SETS HAVE RETIRED IN 2015!! There were no sets I absolutely needed to buy and build this year. (Thanks you Toy Shop GRRRRRRRRRRRRR) I'm MOC-ing my own house, and that takes up most of my time and resources :-) The kids liked the furry animals, Mixels and WHTrain/GBH extras Quote

As a long term investor: UCS Slave 1 Ferris Wheel Complete sets of JW theme UCS Tie Fighter Wall-e I like that you broke it down. Reading some of the responses, I'm not sure if they are saying these are their personal favorites, ones that made them money quick, or hedging long term bets Edited December 16, 2015 by thecrapweasel 1 Quote

Enduro Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 (edited) Good thread! Favorite five 2015 sets for me overall in no particular order: 1. Ferris Wheel (The Tumbler? No, watch out for this one- timeless universal appeal) 2. Slave I (a large scale curved model made out of Lego that looks outta site) 3. Temple of Airjitsu (Hands down home run) 4. Deep Sea Exploration Vessel (Clever as hell) 5. The Kwik-E-Mart (Pretty much a full blown Lego Grocery store and Frostillicus- so want the minifig) Runners up: The Ferrari, UCS Tie Fighter, Dr. Who, Wall-E, GBH, Holiday Train and Jokerland And for the heck of it my five disappointments of 2015. Not that these sets/lines were bad per se, it's just that I was expecting more or there were elements that rubbed me the wrong way: The new Force Awakens Star Wars sets, the Pirate sets (Brick Bounty was OK and the Chess was cool - the rest was lazy), Detectives Office, The rejection of all the Ideas proposals, and the Simpsons mini-figs (enough with the repeats) Edited December 18, 2015 by Enduro Quote

I purchased most of the ones that I resold for $30 ea from local LEGO store. It was one of 11 US stores that were allowed to sell at the price in October due to them being shorted on the recall. I sold 27 on Amazon when the price was $78.80. Another 5, I parted out in my store. Part-out is close to $160. The few that I didn't get at $30 I picked up when they sold for $41 nationally. Edited December 18, 2015 by raindog Change "about $80" to exact price set sold at 1 Quote
