Pretty easy sequence to predict here people. Both for Cindy and Death Star. 1. Image leaks. 2. "Meh, not impressed, where has Lego's creativity gone?" 3. "Guaranteed investment winner"

  • "Well I have about 20 Emails and 3 phone calls on the New Death Star and what am I doing about the 10188.I was going to wait a while to post but with my name poping up everwhere well he is my thought.

If LEGO had never licensed Star Wars - none of us would be here.

This is true.  Now, the best thing for all of us would be LEGO losing that license.

Possibly, but it won't be happening any time soon - What do they have left on their agreement, 6 or 7 years?

Right...There is no chance of that.  Just a pipe dream.

2021, I think.

I thought Han looked like a reseller being bent over by TLG.

Yeah Lego letting go of their number one seller and Disney giving up free money. Maybe in a parallel universe but not here and I highly doubt ever.

I can't help if that's how you take that. As I said, he's looking for a piece he dropped. I have no idea what you're talking about.

At first I thought he was mooning us.

I thought he'd gone big on 10188's  and was going to jump after seeing 75159 pics

Sure, but it's a big jump from that to the notion that without SW, Lego would crater.

It was only meant as a reminder to the power of Star Wars, and the influence that it has. Crater or not, the impact SW has on a brand should never be disregarded.

They sold out Denmark...They are just like the rest...Mexico and China are their allies now.

What does Mexico have to do with this?

Factory there.

Maybe Trump can use Mexican manufactured ABS to build his wall...and LEGO will pay for it!

Just in case everyone wasn't annoyed enough.

Ohh my gosh, Trump finally said something wise!

I think Trump should choose his hairdresser as his Vice-president, because that person KNOWS how to take on the tough issues. If they can handle that mess they can handle anything.

Trying to say this is nbd because Star Wars is an old property seems a bit naive. Look at the bigger picture. LEGO has shown they have no reluctance to rerelease an exact set that retired 9 months prior. That means anything in your inventory could be rereleased at anytime. Of course this won't happen with every set, just the good ones that people WOULD BE willing to pay a premium for if the set weren't otherwise available.

Some are too entrenched to see the big issue though.

Hahha.. Yeah, just wait and watch.  I'm sure they already have the marketing team working overtime, while they come up with catch names for sets like "City Hall", "Green Market" and "Spooky House" that they'll release next year...  Meanwhile their designer staff was laid off.

I think most of these conversations in this thread are emotionally based.  My original thought on the 10188/75159 was that it is ONE set...The longest running production set of all time.  It must have made money for LEGO...a lot of money to be around so long.  It is special.  So special that LEGO decided to freshen it up a bit a roll it out once again.  We all get it.  We understand why LEGO wants to give this set another couple of years.  It's a quick refresh and repackaging and thousands more will be sold.

I think it is a wasted opportunity though.  LEGO really could have done something wonderful...a true showpiece.  It could have been a massive 5000-6000 piece set that would have displayed beautifully in every LEGO store across the world.  People would have paid $500-$600 or more for something special.  Now, many (...and I mean many of the true LEGO fans with money) will blow off the new set and rightfully so.  Why?  They have it.

Personally, I will move onto other sets and themes...less and less STAR WARS sets by the way.  With the exception of a handful of sets in the theme, the sets are just not that interesting or well done.  Flashy boxes don't hide weak designs.  LEGO is getting lazy with this theme.  There are so many vehicles and characters that could get UCS treatment and are ignored for retreads.  The future of LEGO investing does not lie with the STAR WARS theme in my opinion and that is coming from a guy with thousands of STAR WARS sets.

What's next?  Another Snowspeeder and Falcon?  Another Imperial Star Destroyer?  How about a UCS C-3PO?  An AT-AT?  A Venator?  A Landspeeder?  Mos Eisley Cantina?  I can go on.  There are a lot of smart people on this forum and many of us feel disappointed in this ONE particular set.  I won't be disappointed in another UCS Falcon.  I expect it.  I just hope it is BETTER than the original...way better.  That's all that I ask.
