10197 - Fire Brigade

Fire Brigade will be the ultimate test for Modulars..... I wonder how long (if ever) will it take for FB to reach 250-280$ which would for me be a sign that it is successful investment

No matter how many investors piled up Fire Brigades, it will easily reach $250 before too terribly long after it retires.  It's the classic case of people being willing to overpay for something that they want, but is no longer available.  Kids everywhere want to be firemen when they grow up.  The Fire Brigade, and all modulars, are awesome sets.  People are going to pay secondary market prices for a chance to build it if they didn't get it when it was widely avaialble.  Remember, there may be all these new Lego investors, but don't forget to account for all the new fans and new builders that will come along with it.  My guess is that Fire Brigade is worth $250 within the first year of retirement.

In the UK I remember my school classmates wanted to to firemen, policemen, train drivers or pilots in that order.  It may be because we have a lot of arsonists in the UK that need to be dealt with?  Yep, we have to wait and see, we'll know where it's headed this time next year.

I never want to be a Fireman or Policeman but I wanted the Police and Fire sets.

I wanted to be a train driver then a pilot, but I never hankered after those type of sets.

Back on topic, as people have said above the TB & GE are most likely to be around for most of 2014.

TB - because its popular and I am not sure if Sydney Opera is doing will[ anyone know?]

GE - because its a year younger and its a corner set. At the moment you can make a complete block bookended by GE and the PC

The panic buying has definitely set in.

pretty standard for a set after retirement, i think it will be awhile before we see significant returns on this set though, just way to many sets out there and plenty of at cost options for modular buildings directly from lego. Only thing that will help it is the growing popularity of modular buildings in general especially with the coming release of the perisian restaurant.

I went to the Lego store here in Vancouver, Canada and two of the staff members said the Fire Brigade is Discontinued. Take it for what it's worth. I bought a FB awhile back for $125USD, brand new and had it sealed in plastic. Toys R Us Canada still has it at $199CAD, that's retail here. I just clicked the max purchase, 2 more from Toys R Us at 199CAD. I don't care as I have 60 days to return it after it arrives, meaning I can take it to them in February and get a full refund if I find out that it's not EOL. :) Win-Win. A bird in a hand is better than two birds in a bush.

Can you return it to the store or do you have to ship it back to their warehouse? And isn't it 45 days to return an item?

That is interesting. Maybe it is a Christmas rush and everyone wanted one of the FB, and it will come back in stock soon.

I could see it happening.  Though, today a Lego shop employee told me it was discontinued and I called Lego Customer Service and couldn't get one...the lady said "Oh it's not even on back order, that's weird."

Every thing is a sit and wait game. If you have small items to sell that are "IN" sell at high return. But many sets(like the Lego Death Star) your looking at a return in 4-8 years. But the returns, if you can sit on these item's is far greater, than any bank/stock investment. Only down side is my house is full of Lego...Lol. Stomping
