I still think LEGO should create "Porsche custom color" add-on sets that include only the orange plates in different color (say 1 set for red, 1 for white, and another for black).  For $100 a set they would make a killing on those plates

This could work.  After all the car this set is based on has been pulling this, change tiny detail, sell as new model, trick off for 50ish years.

You can be sure that every tom d ick & harry investor out there will be buying this set to invest. I'm not sure how good an investment this will be.

I really dislike the color as well. Why make it orange when there aren't even any orange Porsches out there.

I hope they make special edition color variants of this down the road

This one belongs on the track.  There are no rules.

That's just not true, from the first images in January it was speculated that the final car would be Lava Orange since Porsche almost exclusively used that color to promote the real car: http://www.porsche.com/microsite/911-gt3-rs/usa.aspx#intro

Damn, that's a nice car.

Looks much better than the Lego set haha.

What I meant was that we hardly ever see Porches on the road in this shade of orange.

IIRC this color was introduced with the GT3 RS, that's not a car you see very often on the roads, it's made for the track.

+1

Orange (and other bright colours like almost fluorescent bright green) have been mainstays of the more hardcore stripped down versions of the 911. Actually, even the "normal" 911 have had various hues of orange available throughout the years.

There was a pair of even more stripped down track-prepared GT3RS, one orange and one bright green, that were run by a group that I would always see at local track days a few years ago. While the occassional GT2 from a distance sounded like a turbine (like a Nissan GT-R), the GT3 sounded a lot more like the actual race-prepared Porsche.

According to the interview on Brickset this will be a part of a new series. Expect new releases every year. This means collectability which we know equals to profit.

Wonder if we will see something expected (Ferrari or AMG), a bit different (Aston Martin) or something completely unexpected (Koenigsegg or Pagani).

Father's Day is coming up . Time for a hint.

note to self: make sure Mother's Day gift is well appreciated

Never mind the hint ... 2016 is the year fathers ought to treat themselves!

I think the color is awesome.. A wild color for a wild car. They can keep the boring red for the crappy creator Ferrari. :P

I don't think it would sell well outside of the US market.

I think we can expect more from existing licences first e.g. Ford GT, AMG Mercedes and VW Audi group. Some of these parts are going to find their way into other sets in the future.

Hi guys, I have a question
You can know how many sets have been produced of this article?

8043-1: Motorized Excavator

I ask for understanding the possible value in the future.
In fact, it would be useful to know exactly how many sets of each product have been manufactured and it is no longer in production, so you can assess its real value.
Do you think that the LEGO can provide such information?
There is already a web site that provides this data?
Thank you!

So the other two new technic sets that lego released on August 1st 42054 (Claas Xerion) and 42055 (Volvo Ew160E) are already out of stock and on back order at SAH.

Is it just me or is Lego totally messing up recently? Granted that these sets have been highly anticipated but it's not like they are Star wars UCS sets that are flying off the shelves on release date.

Lego must be losing so much money first with the porsche shambles, now that isn't even a lego exclusive and is already starting to be on sale at 5-10% in UK. Every other retailers has these sets in stock so has Lego under estimated demand?

Looking forward to see how lego copes with the Disney castle, on back order after day 1?
