so what kind of bone is the werewolf guy holding? It is way too long to be coming from the minifigs and too thin for a dinosaur bone..

There is no modern bone morphology that exhibits the exact characteristics of Wolfman's bone, however, it bears resemblance to a modern humanoid "long" bone, specifically, the humerus. Artistic license has exaggerated the definition between the head and greater tubercle on the proximal end but is more to scale between the medial and lateral epichondyles distally. So, I'm saying it's a human arm.....or from a unicorn. One or the other

Duplo animal bone? Giraffe maybe?

Hmm, I wonder if the Werewolf was involved in the fight against the Duplo invasion (cf the LEGO Movie) :D

I have a sealed box of these and contemplating opening the box and making complete sets and keep a complete set for myself OR keeping it sealed and smooshing 16 for my own collection. Any insight/opinions would be appreciated.

Keep the sealed.

Embrace your inner smoosher and put together a set of 16 from available stock where you can find them.

I probably have the droids you're looking for. Keep your sealed box and we can work out a trade

Ok, while I'm contemplating madness (at least for me)

Do you think ordering 60 from TRU would cause them to do their classic "slap a shipping label on a box and call it a day" maneuver? Because that could theoretically be a great way to snag a sealed box at this point.

good question, and tempting to try. I think I may give that a whirl.

It depends on what you want to do with that box.  One thing for sure, sealed box of 60 is harder to find than 16 sealed packs

Not likely.  They still have to manually count for 60 packs

that's an interesting question. On one hand you could could consider the recent issues LEGO has had with churning out adequate production and the popularity of this series as a case for keeping your box sealed for a rainy day.

On the other hand, maybe all the scarcity is really due to resellers hoarding and/or LEGO will go all Exosuit on series 14 in response to the initial demand, and a year from now these won't be worth much of anything. If this were true,maybe selling them while they're hot and covering the cost of your personal set of 16 is the smart move.

@darth raichu

Both scenarios would be for selling down the line just not sure the route to go. I know you generally get more money back if you sell individually versus something in "bulk" like a case here. But that's also a one time sale.

this series is crazy good...the best part is these will be nowhere to be found near halloween and by then cases might hit $300++ and complete sets $100++ consistently...

This is the scenario that I figured, a better roi selling the complete sets separately but I haven't done CMF reselling before. I'm just assuming this is how it goes.

I'm selling sets at $109 over the past couple days.

Translation: you are gambling. We all are. You can have good hunches and well (or not so well) educated guesses, but at the end of the day, we are essentially gambling. Just like purchasing stocks. If you invest quietly and carefully over time you can do well, if you take the "mutual funds". Trains. Ships. The stuff that everybody knows you can hold for a couple years and cash in on. Ok, sometimes that plan even bites you (see winter village toy store). But when it comes to CMF's or Mixels, you're essentially betting on penny stocks. Hold them you long and the sleazy folks who slice open bags at my local walmart will undersell you and walk away laughing.

Sorry. I should go to bed, I'm low on sleep anyhow, I guess I'm just trying to say that this is a volatile market, so you just have to be aware that the only certain thing seems to be that everything constantly changes. Sometimes we take one on the chin, and sometimes we knock it out of the park...

When I first saw the leaked images of this set, it was a "you've got to be kidding me" moment.

Then I saw the official images and I thought "these just might have some potential".

Seeing these in person and being able to hold them in hand has won me over.  I have no problem placing a small bet on a seasonal theme like Halloween.  I figure I'll be wishing I had bought more, not less.

@2x4

I concur with your sentiments entirely. @speedsausage originally asked for opinions regarding opening/not opening his sealed S14 case. I was just helping think out loud through some pros and cons of either decision. I realize I wasn't really throwing anything ground breaking out there.

In the end I think you said it best that this is a volatile market and all our decisions are a gamble.

I haven't done the math to confirm but I'm guessing the best ROI comes from waiting to see which figures are the most in demand, and then selling off the 60 at market prices? I haven't sold many minifigures so maybe it's not worth the extra time and effort to go this route.

I think the best option at this time is to keep it sealed. I can always open it down the road if I see fit but I can't go backwards if I open it now.

My next question is, one box contains three complete sets. Are the quantities of the extra minifigs the same for every box? Or do the quantities change from box to box?

supposed to be the same but several forum members have reported minor distribution variances in previous series.

I disagree. These generic bones most resemble a human femur. The head sticks out way more than that of a humerus, and the greater trochanter is more pronounced than the greater tubercle of a humerus. The condyles are more like the generic shape compared to the epicondyles of a humerus. Plus the trochlea and capitulum on the distal end of the humerus give it a weird shape that isn't two nicely rounded projections like the femoral condyles. It's a leg bone. (I think it could even possibly resemble a metacarpal, but that would be one big creature eaten by the werewolf so I'm going with leg bone.)

I would think that the Banshee and Specter would be difficult to write off as costumes.

I don't know. Those Scooby-Doo crooks can be surprisingly crafty with their getups. Haha. But yeah, I could have worded it "Far as the general public is concerned, almost all are costumes excluding the duo of apparitions." or something similar.
