I've always felt that going around and cleaning out stores of one or two figures in a set is a **** move. That's my belief. There are genuine collectors/kids out there that want an entire set and don't want to pay your stupid $7 mark-up + shipping. I have no problem with reselling sets that sit on the shelves for over a year that folks have had ample opportunity to purchase, but have somehow missed out. We're offering them a service and taking on the risk and effort in order to hopefully make a profit.

Smooshing for complete sets on the other hand is perfectly OK in my book. I'll get off my soapbox now. Thanks.

I would agree with that. You just have so many people that get on here and brag about wiping out all the figures they can sell for $10-20 and leaving all the commons. I don't buy them. I just think it's messed up. Read the ethics thread and they frown on less shady practices. At least that's my view. I'm done on this topic.

What if Lego switched to blind boxes? No more smooshing!

I like that idea, but would guess a increase in price would follow.

Series 15, of all stores within 20-30 miles (3 Targets, 3 Walmarts, Kmart, BN, TRU, etc) only 1 Target ever had some on the shelf. I felt guilty getting my set out of that lone location knowing how hard they were to come by in the area.

For Disney, I'm just buying a box from minifiguresplus (get my guaranteed set, sell the rest) and leaving little Timmy, Tommy, Jimmy & Johnny to fight over the store ones.

The issue is all the people that cherry pick the valuable ones and leave commons. To me it's wrong. And I have never bought one of them and it's mostly due to hearing people bragging about I bought 10 figures and got 10 hot dog guys.

Yes, the cherry picking can leave a frustrating conundrum for everyone else left to deal with the aftermath. However whether such activity is for personal collecting or profitable resale, neither side can be condemned as the choice is every person's exercisable right in the marketplace, agree with it or not.

Now something for everyone to consider out of curiosity, if LEGO were to make a decision in altering their mystery packs while keeping the current retail so you knew exactly who was inside before purchase, would this make things better or worse?

That'd be a poor move for LEGO because sales would drop. The bags are brilliant and create excitement in hunting and purchasing for all ages. This is what, the latest "smooshable" wave in a series more than 15 iterations deep with the same packaging as the first? It's so successful in fact that they were able to take it a step further and get customer buy in for collecting geographic data with the series 10 limited Mr. Gold registration. It's a business dream. Tell me what other mystery pack scheme is as significant as this one. What other toy motivates the customer to study, think about and dedicate so much time to the brand before the product is even taken to the register?

No, a box is not nearly intimate enough.

A small thin cardboard box is cheap like plastic. Take for instance the Japanese gashapons that come in small boxes.

Blind boxes won't make sales of cmf drop. People would still buy them. Lego fans are crazy enough.

It's just that if a person wanted ten shark dudes then he'd have to at least buy 3 cases and eat the rest of the figures he doesn't want.

In the end, Lego makes money.

Agreed. It would probably increase the packaging cost for each minifigure so that's what's probably holding them back from switching. Imagine a 1 cent increase in packaging cost x 5,000,000.

Just imagined it. $50k is a minuscule drop in Lego's bucket. If they wanted truly blind packs they could and would do it, it wouldn't affect their bottom line. I doubt the reason it's never switched is packaging costs. Something about the current semi-blind bags is working very well for them, so much so that they haven't changed the packaging in 15 iterations like Curtis mentions.

Top tips for smooshing

1- go to shop

2- buy all minifigures insight

3- ask an employee if there is more in the back, if so buy them too.

4- go home relax and smoosh away.

5- take all the ones you dont want back the next day for a refund.

p.s i love the disney minifigures

This is exactly what I do.  Why stand around the store uncomfortably feeling up plastic bags when there is a perfectly good couch and TV at home?? Plus, then I can get my wife to help too.

And this is why I could NEVER find the stupid hot dog guy.  Still have one empty, lonely space in my Minifigure case where he should be standing... I just can't get myself to justify spending $12 on a minifigure yet... :growl:

I bought 15 packs today at Target.  After some smooshing and not-so-accurate guessing I came away with 10 unique figures.  My opened duplicates are the Toy Story Alien (which I plan on keeping), Minnie, and Stitch.  Hopefully I can track down the rest of them to complete my set.

You might want to check under your perfectly good couch cushions. :P

Buying and returning might bring up another thread/debate on what they do with the returns, whether they're put back on the shelf or handled differently at a loss.
Whether you care or not is even another thread/debate.

Until they put them in a box and shrink-wrap them, smoosh on my friends. Are their rules written on the wrapper? Disney will sell regardless. Every single one of these will sell, so what does it matter? Just be glad Frozen was not included. Can you imagine the smooshing then? Look at those football figures in a box. I don't know if I am getting Tom Brady or Peyton Manning. I am all for Lego putting them in a box. It's more exciting that way.

Bought 25 from my Target.  Have 15 out of 18 Characters.  Need Mickey, Daisy and Buzz.  Will probably just keep buying as I see them til I get all then sell the rest of whatever extras I have

For anybody who's purchased boxes from indigo or minifigures plus in the past, or anywhere for that matter, do they ever come "sealed" like wrapped in plastic or with seals on them? or is there anything that should be keeping the box closed?

Minifigures+ will get you sealed case (with tape seals kinda like the sets). Indigo may or may not come sealed. I've received more open than sealed.
