lanhambr
Good Afternoon... well at least it is in Maryland...So I am new to the site and have poked around a little and I'm not sure if I posted this in the right spot. I would love to get into investing in Legos, but don't really know where to start or how to build a base to work from.My wife and I are teachers and are saving for a house, and were heading into summer, so our disposable income is low at the moment but is better when school is back in session. I collect, build, and have picked up a few for investment purposes, but I would like to expand to have more options. I loved Lego as a kid and picked it up recently when I purchased 21020 Trevi Fountain to teach about Roman architecture. I was of course bitten with the bug and have been back to Legos for close to a year now. I unfortunately missed the Harry Potter series and regret it every time I see a Diagon Alley set.As far as what I have now, and I'm not sure if they are considered an investment...I have about 20 different sets that I have built including TB and PC and PR and DO,a few polybags from dollars spent promotional items like ADM Yularen, Winter SoldierWhen the Hover Hunter was on sale at LEGO Shop at Home for 2.98 I picked up 10, and those are my only new setsI guess my biggest questions right now are:What type of sets make good investments? Any suggestions of sets to buy now as an investment? What is the best way to sell the sets when you are ready? Are the holiday sets worth getting?Collecting vs. Investing, any tips about how I can balance the love of building them with knowing how valuable they are mint? Also, what is the best place to buy Legos... I mean I love the $5 for every 100 points, but is there a better deal out there when buying Legos? Thanks for any answers and or help with these questions! Sandwraith
Welcome! There are many answers to your questions throughout the site, and i'm sure you'll find some good information in your search. But i have some time so here are some quick answers that hopefully give you a bit of advice:1. Way too big of a question to cover, exclusives like ones you have are a safe choice though.2. Any of the sets playing the "Out of Stock" game (R5, PS, TB, ETC).3. Really depends on what you prefer, highly personal preference. 4. The big Christmas sets are usually safe bets.5. This is a tough one, even i struggle with it. Some sets i wish i kept sealed, while others i wish i never sold. Judgement call.6. Being from Canada i can't really comment on the state of US buying. Lego stores with double VIP promotions and a good polybag promo are pretty good to buy exclusives. You can find non-exclusives much cheaper in places like Walmart and Target.Good luck!

legoray01
WelcomeFirst suggestion is collect what you like- even for investing. That way if it is a dud you still have it and enjoy it. Second - read the posts here. I have learned a lot and taken suggestion that have been very lucrative but remember everyone has opinions and they are different. Third Develop a strategy and be happy with that strategy, Buy and hold, quick flip, part it out, used, everything on sale, big sets only, exclusives only, etc. are all strategies and every person here has one. Fourth, Time, space and money are all limited.Fifth, define your goal. Six, be realistic, this is work to be successful. My last two big buys were the ToO and Red 5. I am waiting for my orders but I think these are reaching the end of their run (in my opinion) and with points and a winter soldier I feel they are a good buy right now. (Just my opinion.) My longshot outsider is the Maersk EEE. IT is in stock but has a retiring notation. But I really like this set so it is more of a personal thing to me.,
BrickChick
Welcome, Ianhambr! I am new here as well, so I can't be much help. My husband and I just started investing this month. There is a wealth of information here, so keep reading. Personally, we are focusing on the large Creator buildings like PS, PC, etc. as well as certain licensed sets like the Ecto-1, Tumbler, and a few Star Wars sets. Our expectations are modest. Our bank is only paying out 2% for a CD. If we do better than that, we win! Good luck and have fun!
