I've already purchased several sets from TRU due to their 15% discount.  I got the SSD, 2 GE, 1 TH, 1 PS, and 2 HH.  Is 15% really that good of a deal? I'm considering buying a Death Star today as well for $340 plus tax.  But is that worthwhile or should I wait for a better deal?

I'd half expect DS to be heavily discounted just before it goes EOL.  Since it may be around for a long time yet, I'm in no rush unless it's 33% or more off RRP.  I'd only buy this at a big discount as it's been around for a very long time and there'll be many thousands out there.

Heavily discounted?  Actually I expect the opposite.  If Lego is "smart", they will do like they did with the UCS Falcon and announce that the Death Star is soon to be retired, and then proceed to sell oodles at full price until the last one is gone...

There's a tendency to say that there are so many out there of these, but seriously....how many of these does the average investor own?  More than 5? 10? 20?

I favor the SSD.  People don't want to spend the money on it because they don't see it worth 400.  I believe this to be the reason it will rise more sharply in price once it retires.

Question I've been wanting the Death Star for so long now I have the chance to get it on Saturday should I use my money for something else. I own every star wars set created in the last 6years all of the Lord of the rings all the hobbit all the ultimate spider man and all of batman. So I love the Death Star......is it hype or is it really that good....

I like the set even though I do not own one, but that is my opinion.

It is amazing!I don't think it gets any better than that set, with the Ewok Village a close second (as far as playsets).

IMO, the Ewok Village is a close second. I think that there will be plenty of time to get the Ewok Village.

I agree get.  It's not only a fun build...it is great to look at!!  I still turn mine in different directions so I can see it all

I never thought about doing that if i had the set. If i do get the Death Star, I will probably turn it every day. This set is going on my Christmas Wishlist.

I'd rather get an SSD. WAY more cool looking. BUT, a DS is good too...

I think there is a couple of different ways to look at it between the two :

SSD is way more impressive and is seriously a Display set

Death Star - has so much going on. People will glance longingly at the SSD. They will stare and observe the Death Star for much longer.

Step 1: Do the happy dance.

Step 2: Be happy your getting the Death Star because it's awesome.

Step 3: Don't worry about other sets because your wife bought you a frickin Death Star.

Step 4: Let others be jealous.

Step 5: Repeat.

My birthday is next week and I think my wife is getting me either the Ultimate X-wing, Tower of Orthanc, or Ewok village. I think an SSD or Death Star is going to have to be on my account though.

Hey guys, at the moment, I don't have space nor time to build the sets but I do have the capital to pony it up. I just wanted to get some of these now since I may have the itch to build them in the future and not want to pay they high premium. I know there is a 50 dollar difference but is not to be considered since I'm just looking for the best value for build experience. (Or I could toss in a Jabba's Palace with the Death Star to lessen the price difference.) So here goes:

If I was to get into one theme which one should I get: 3 $150 (undecided) Modular sets or 1 $400 Death Star?

1. Building experience wise?

2. Collecting wise?

3. Investing wise?

Thanks!

The death star is an awesome set, no doubt, but I'd go with the modulars on all three.

As for building experience, I think the modulars provide a better build. They have extreme detail, and I love how they use certain pieces in ways you wouldn't expect.

Collecting wise, again I'd go with modulars. They are quite literally built to be combined. I'm trying to get into lego investing but I have a ridiculous urge to collect all the modulars, build them, and make an awesome town.

Investing wise, again the modulars. The death star has been around for 6(?) years now, people will own multiples of copies. And it shows no sign of retiring, it keeps appearing in the major catalogs. By the time it does retire (if ever) it will take a really long time for it to get up to the price of a UCS set.
