Have you guys seen the movie? Starkiller UCS isn't happening.

A new DS is happening. Will it be better than the original? That remains to be seen. If it's just a moderate update to 10188 with modern building techniques and minifigs, it's going to crush anyone hoarding this set. If it's completely revamped and looks like the classic Batcave or Attack on Hoth, 10188 is gonna destroy planets.

Don't get your logic. Only if Episode 7 bomb on the box office, then maybe we would see another Lego UCS death star.

But episode 7 is immensely popular, and Lego UCS starkiller base is a logical business outcome. We have almost everything made into Lego for episode 7, except starkiller base and snoke. And that planet plays a YUGE/HUUUGE role in the new movie.

Starkiller had nothing to do with the film's success. The film succeeded despite it being the weakest part in it.

another possibility for a "star killer base":

similar set as the "great" new "hoth echo base": some useless small buildings with some minifigs. this would be no problem for 10188. but still dont believe in a "star killer base" since they made so much cash with 10188 and hoth echo base will be a loser-set.

I would not make sense if a remake of 10188 would be made in 2016. Nor would it make sense if the doll house would be converted into a display set. I think (guess) TLG will issue a UCS model related to this new trilogy. And if they do, I'm hoping for a huge display set.

But to be honest, I really like 10188. Big box, great artwork on the box, lots of parts, many nice minifigures. Yes, it is a doll house but it is a magnificent piece of toy. Kids can play for hours with it (at least I would :derisive:). I have 2, 1 for investment and 1 to build for myself and keep it for display.

To be fair, the company can't be too creative with licensed material. The licensed sets have to be based on the movies/TV shows. On the other hand, there are much creativity in ninjago, nexo knights, chima, creator and even some friends sets. Yet AFOL are not lapping up on these sets, while demanding creativity on licensed themes ... the irony.

Why would lego give up on making a starkiller base in the same style as 10143?

What people mean by creativity on 75098, is just the fact that it's so plainly detailed.  If you can call that set 'detailed.'  The problem is, it's a 4 in 1 pack of a bunch of smaller sets combined.  That's where it falls apart for people.  I'm sure if they picked like 2 main things, like the actual base and the ion cannon or something and added more stuff for an actual assault, I think you would be hearing a different tone.  So yes, Assault on Hoth is lacking in creativity IMO.  It's trying to be ok at too many things instead of being fantastic at one thing.

The problems with Ninjago, Nexo Knights, Chima, etc, is the fact that it is primarily directed at kids.  (Yes, I know ironic.)  But you have to look at a sets viability years down the road when people come out of their dark ages.  Are they going to want to buy all those sets for a theme they missed out on?? Maybe...maybe not.  I know I was a big fan of the Aliens sets that were released in the 97-98ish era, but I'm not going out of my way to get them either.  It wasn't as important as a theme like Star Wars, etc.

I think you are mixing up creativity with high level of detail and value for money. Assault on hoth is low in details and value. This i think few will argue with you.

If lego decides to rehash another 10188 then the company is being illogical. A UCS starkiller base would most certainly outsell a rehash of 10188 simply because most people who already own set 10188 would still go out to buy the new UCS starkiller base, but will not buy another rehash 10188. We can do a poll here to verify.

We can all sleep tight tonight knowing that you have it all figured out. Thanks from all the members here who don't have a clue.

A little mixup maybe.  But not entirely, it still takes some creativity to be able to recreate something in great detail in Lego.  It's a different kind of creativity, than an original IP from Lego.

It would still depend on what exactly the UCS Starkiller base looks like, and how they play it out.  Honestly, I would rather Lego do an updated 10188, with a complete outer shell, and a couple of scenes to play with when you remove sections of it.  I wouldn't mind a Starkiller base either, but I guess it just depends on anything really.  There is very little information, so it's impossible to really tell how it's going to effect 10188.

As far as your logic on most people owning 10188, yes I agree there are lots of people who own it, but it was so long in it's teeth, you have to imagine, that even if they did rehash is somehow, it would still sell just fine.  The only people it would hurt are resellers.

It would be nice if BrickPicker would sponsor a new viral video depicting the new Death Star crashing into the Assault on Hoth set.

I'd do it cheaper, if someone sends me a couple AT-ATs and the Assault on Hoth set, I'd throw the AT-ATs at it. Heck, I'd even include a couple of my extra Snowspeeders.

Most of what i collect is Star Wars and i would rather have a new 10188 than a Starkiller Base. If they do release a UCS Starkiller Base, i will not be buying it. It's a rip off of the Death Star in the first place and is illogical from a science perspective and would be a crappy build.
